Introduction

Memblaze Logo

Memblaze is a leading name in the Asian enterprise SSD space, recognized for creating high-performance storage built to meet the demands of datacenters and cloud platforms. With in-house firmware and a focus on real-world efficiency, its drives are designed to deliver speed, reliability, and consistently low latency.

The Memblaze PBlaze7 7940 marks the company's first entry into the PCIe 5.0 enterprise SSD segment, launching two new SKUs under this lineup. Both models share the same hardware design, built around the Marvell Bravera controller. One variant is paired with Micron NAND, while the other—targeted primarily at the Asian market—features YMTC NAND Flash.

The Memblaze PBlaze7 7940 is available in capacities of 3.84 TB ($596), 7.68 TB ($925), 15.36 TB ($1980) and 30.72 TB ($3600). That pricing applies to bulk purchases of at least 200 units. Determining the exact unit price was somewhat challenging, as prices on platforms like Alibaba—where these SSDs are commonly sold—can vary significantly, often showing large discrepancies. However, in real-world scenarios, servers and datacenters typically purchase such products in volume. Of course, this depends on the size and scale of the organization—smaller companies are less likely to place large-scale orders compared to larger enterprises with higher operational demands and budgets. There is also a different SKU called 7946 which has the same hardware, but instead of using 7% of its space for over-provisioning, it uses 28%, leading to lower usable capacity, but higher performance. Endurance is set to 1 DWPD on the 7940, which converting to our most known "TBW" would be around 7008 TBW, 14,016 TBW, 28,032 TBW and 56,064 TBW, respectively. That's incredibly high compared to regular consumer grade SSDs, although quite on par with other enterprise drives.
