  • The MSRP of Scythe Chouriki 850W Plug-In is $176.
  • Handled full power with over 50°C
  • High efficiency (for its 80 Plus certification)
  • Good performance at Advanced Transient Response Tests
  • Equipped with a high quality and silent fan
  • High MSRP price
  • High ripple at +12V
  • Loose voltage regulation on minor rails, 3.3V over 5% limit
  • Mediocre performance in Turn On Transient Tests
  • Short PCIe cables
  • Only one EPS connector
  • Low Power Factor at high operating temperatures
After the review the Scythe Chouriki 850W Plug-In failed to impress me. I couldn't find a retail price for it at any on line stores located in the U.S. so judging from its MSRP it is way overpriced for what it offers. It may have high efficiency, good performance at Advanced Transient Response Tests and features silent operation, but its voltage regulation, mainly at the minor rails is loose, ripple at +12V is very high and during Turn On Transient Tests performance was mediocre. On top of that its PCIe cables are short and it is equipped with only one EPS connector.

Nowadays power supplies with high ripple voltage are unacceptable. Some drawbacks that are not related to +12V can be overlooked, but high ripple on this essential line can't be tolerated. Combined with the high asking price, it is difficult to recommend this unit. However if you find it for under $100 and you don't mind the high ripple, which shortens capacitors life and has a negative impact on other components, then you can give it a try.
