Shape and Dimensions

Shape

The EC2 has been among the most popular and likely most frequently copied shapes for more than a decade. With the AX, VAXEE slightly modifies the EC2 shape to better suit different needs. Essentially, the AX is a compressed EC2. Shorter in length and and slightly wider, the hump is still centered on the AX, but the left side raises higher, creating a bulkier body compared to the EC2, which is more elongated. Furthermore, the back edge is abridged to provide the palm more breathing space, the main buttons sit slightly higher, and they no longer have comfort grooves. The changes don't alter the shape radically, but enough to where the way one can grip the mouse is noticeably changed. To put it slightly simplified, the EC2 better suits claw or fingertip grip, whereas the AX better suits palm grip because it fills the hand more, though without restricting vertical movement. More specifically, the AX is particularly suited for what VAXEE likes to call "tilt grip," i.e., having the wrist rotated to the right instead of lying flatly on the pad. This applies irrespective of the chosen grip style otherwise, so someone using a claw grip with a tilted wrist may find him or herself in fact preferring the AX over the EC2 simply due to this particular design choice.

As for grip styles, I'd say the AX mostly suits palm and claw grip, with fingertip grip possible at least. It's a medium-sized mouse with a fairly pronounced hump, which should make it generally suit most hand sizes. For reference, my hands are 19 cm long and 10 cm wide, and I found the AX very comfortable in claw grip.

Dimensions

This table includes the dimensions of the VAXEE Outset AX and several other right-handed ergonomic mice. "Front height" denotes the distance between the base and main buttons. Measurements with two decimals have been taken with a caliper, while those with one decimal have been taken with a ruler.
