Introduction

Almost exactly four and a half years ago, we examined the ErgoDox EZ Shine, a split mechanical keyboard that provided a user-friendly retail experience on the popular ErgoDox form factor. The ErgoDox EZ is still going strong, but ZSA—the company behind it—sought the next-gen ergonomic experience. There were certainly a couple of issues with the ErgoDox EZ, including the inability to cater to smaller hands and not having backlighting support. Today, we test the latest and greatest from the company, and thanks to ZSA for providing TechPowerUp a review sample!

I like this photo for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is because it clearly illustrates what the Moonlander—more technically the Moonlander Mark I—is all about. As with many other ergonomic keyboards we have seen in the past from the likes of Mistel, Kinesis, and of course ZSA itself, this is a split keyboard, which means you can position the keyboard halves to best suit the width of your shoulders for a more natural position of the hands when typing. I picked this photo because it shows the Moonlander in white, and that is the second color option aside from the black I chose to make photography easier. Tilting, tenting, these are all terms you will become familiar with over the course of the review if you haven't yet as we get ready to launch and see if the Moonlander boosts up to properly land on the target or not.
