AMD are going to need it with their CCX/IO latency issues. Provided they can get the IMC to support above 3600Mhz reliably.
You will still get a boost from the sugar and caffeine though but the rest is just a placebo effect.
Gaming is the big buzz word. Like Gunnar "Gaming Glasses" You can buy any cheap glasses from the dollar store but these are "Gaming Glasses" -- all marketing speak.
Even if you don't use a numpad, the fact that it fills up the chassis helps shift the QWERTY keys to the left which also compensates for the mouse hand off to the right.
At the very least, if you're gonna have gaps either side of the keyboard, move the speakers to there so that you can move the whole keyboard closer to the screen making room for a bigger trackpad! There's nothing premium about a cramped layout that forces a smaller trackpad to be used....
