Ubisoft Cancels Immortals Fenyx Rising Sequel

Earlier this week it was reported that Ubisoft had cancelled development on its sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising (2020)—Video Games Chronicle gathered information from multiple anonymous sources. The article proposed that: "a follow-up game was in early development at Ubisoft Quebec, but company leadership ultimately decided to cancel it earlier this month due to perceived challenges around establishing the IP." This studio was best known for its work on Assassin's Creed Odyssey (2018), but a brave decision was made to produce a new intellectual property—Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb understood that Ubisoft had grand ambitions to turn Immortals into a big time franchise, with a continued multiplatform release strategy, as well as spin-offs.

Ubisoft has been going through a rough patch in recent times—several unannounced games were canned earlier this year, and many of the publisher's 2022 releases underperformed at retail. According to VGC's inside sources, Ubi leadership has prioritized prominent brands (e.g Assassin's Creed), and this rethink put the Immortals sequel's future in jeopardy. A company spokesperson has responded to the news site's article, and confirmed that development staff are now working on more important IPs: "As part of our global strategy, we are redirecting and reallocating some creative teams and resources within the Quebec studio to other unannounced projects. The expertise and technologies these teams developed will serve as an accelerator for the development of these key projects focused on our biggest brands. We have nothing further to share at this time."

Played the first one for like 3 hours when it hit gamepass. Competently made, nothing obviously bad about it, but entirely uninteresting. Don't think I ever launched it a 2nd time.

I had no idea that there was a sequel in the works.
Well thats too bad cause I've quite liked the first game and even finished it, yeah the game had some borderline frustrating/annoying puzzles and whatnot but most of those were optional anyway.
The core game was fun imo, I had fun with the gameplay and the mythological design was cool with a funny/non serious side added to it.

surprised you care about that series, it just about the most soulless game out there for me, just generally feels like im walking around in a world that is not finished, as there are just placeholder things everywhere, ugly, unwelcome and unpleasant.

How long before AssCreed and Far Cry sequels are the only thing that Ubis**t churns out? Not long enough.

It's unironically one of my favorites. There are definitely some things that feel generic but not placeholder like. The graphics in the first one leave a lot to be desired but the rain impresses me. What in particular was "unpleasant" about it?

I had the exact same experience. It just didn't have any "soul" and no I don't know what I mean by that, but I can tell games that have that vs others that don't.

Actually enjoyed this game. Not without its flaws, namely it took a while to feel it out (had a generic reskin vibe - because it kinda was! But I had heard this passes and that is what I found too), had too much padding, and Ubisofts chronic map icon spam. But otherwise it had faster combat than odyssey, I liked the bosses, and I appreciated the mechanics the gear brought. I did finish it, and I did enjoy it for the most part. Only regret getting the gold version, coz I just noped out of the DLC after an hour - game had run its course for me.
