Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Series Powered by Next Gen Core, Arc and RTX 40-series Graphics

The full specifications of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Book 4 line of ultra portable notebooks, have been leaked to the web by Windows Report. The star attraction with these notebooks are the next-generation Intel Core processors (possibly "Meteor Lake"), combined with LPDDR4X, LPDDR5, or LPDDR5X memory, the company's latest NVMe SSD storage, and innovative new display panels. There are as many as 5 main models based on form-factor and market segment, and their sub-variants based on memory or storage sizes. The series begins simply with the Galaxy Book 4, with a conventional thickness body and 15.6-inch screen size. This notebook has a conventional IPS panel with anti-glare treatment, and Full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. At the heart is a Core 5-120U processor that boosts up to 5.00 GHz, and has 12 MB of L3 cache. The notebook uses the iGPU of this processor, and combines it with 8 GB of LPDDR4X memory. There are two M.2 NVMe slots, one of which has a pre-installed 512 GB SSD. Comms include Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1.

The Galaxy Book 4 360 is a step up, and is a convertible. This looks similar to the Galaxy Book 4, but with a screen hingle that turns it into a tablet. The 15.6-inch display now gets an AMOLED touchscreen with Full HD resolution. While the processor is the same Core 5-120U, the 8 GB of memory is faster LPDDR5. You still get two M.2 NVMe slots, one of which has a 256 GB SSD. The communications are a step up, too, with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. Both the Galaxy Book 4 and Galaxy Book 4 360 should be priced around the $1,000-mark.
The Galaxy Book 4 Pro is where things get interesting. This 14-inch thin-and-light comes with a premium AMOLED display with 2880 x 1800 pixels resolution, and a touch panel. It comes with a faster Core 7-155U processor that boosts up to 4.80 GHz, with 24 MB of smart cache; 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 512 GB NVMe SSD with an empty M.2 slot for additional storage. An unspecified model of Intel Arc discrete GPU powers the display. Networking options include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. This notebook is expected to be priced around the $1,500 mark. The Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 is a step-up. While even the 4 Pro has a touchscreen, the 4 Pro 360 has a digitizer, and a 360-degree hinge that lets you turn it into a tablet. Under the hood, the 4 Pro 360 is almost identical to the 4 Pro, spare for the larger 1 TB SSD.

The Galaxy 4 Ultra leads the pack, and is designed to square off against some models of Apple's MacBook Pro 16-inch. It uses the fastest Core 9-185H processor that maxes out all specs of the "Meteor Lake" silicon, along with 32 GB of LPDDR5X memory, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU. The 16-inch AMOLED touchscreen comes with 2880 x 1800 pixels resolution. Comms include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 (a missed opportunity to go with Wi-Fi 7). The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra could command a price slightly higher than the $2,400 of the Galaxy 3 Ultra.

The Galaxy Book 4 measures 365 mm x 229 mm x 15.4 mm (WxDxH), weighing 1.57 kg. It comes with a basic 720p webcam, a combination of two USB 3.2 + type-C ports; microSD card reader, and a non-illuminated keyboard. It packs a 54 Wh battery, along with a 45 W type-C adapter. The Galaxy Book 4 360 is more compact, measuring 355 mm x 228 mm x 13.7 mm, and is in fact lighter, at 1.46 kg, due to its AMOLED display. The peripherals, ports, and connectors are similar spare for the 1080p webcam, the keyboard is backlit illuminated. Despite its compact dimensions, it has a better endowed power-pack, with a 68 Wh battery, and a 65 W type-C adapter.

The Galaxy Book 4 Pro, despite its 16-inch 16:10 screen, is thinner and lighter, measuring just 312 mm x 223 mm x 11 mm, weighing just 1.26 kg. You get a 2K camera, and a backlit keyboard. Ports and connectors include two Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps) ports, one USB 3.2, one HDMI 2.0, and a microSD card reader. The power pack is carried over from the Galaxy Book 4 360, with a 68 Wh battery, and 65 W type-C power adapter. The Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 has similar dimensions to the non-Pro 360, measuring 355 mm x 252 mm x 12.8 mm, weighing 1.66 kg. You get the same display (albeit on a 360-degree hinge), the same 2K webcam, the same exact set of ports, including two 40 Gbps Thunderbolt 4, but a larger power pack, with a 76 Wh battery, and a 65 W type-C power adapter.

The Galaxy Book 4 Ultra dominates the lineup, with dimensions similar to the Galaxy Book 4 360, measuring 355 mm x 250 mm x 16 mm, and 1.86 kg weight, which may seem high, but you've to understand that the hardware on offer matches performance H-segment notebooks. You get a 2K webcam and a backlit keyboard, the same set of ports and connectors as the Galaxy Book 4 Pro, the same 76 Wh battery as the 4 Pro 360, but a powerful 140 W power adapter.

FFS. Trying to buy the right laptop is a complete minefield of bewildering spec differences hidden behind a quagmire of multiple complicated model names, not to mention regional variations in specs that have the same name in each territory.

Agreed, seems like everything nowadays just has to be a clusterf*ck of mind-boggling confuseration & gobblygook, with a buttload of mix & match parts and misleading naming conventions, so sad that we have to deal with this crap every single day just to try to find something that will do what we need it to do.. :(

And 8 GB ram? system ram, not even dedicated graphics ram. And the above comments are accurate especially about the wildly varying specs from region to region.

It doesn't seem these will be available for Christmas. If they were to be, they would be listed on Samsung's site by now, and they aren't. I hope I can afford the 360 pro 16"

We don't want:
  • 15 inch tiny laptops.
  • Intel heat-pumps.
  • Nvidia low VRAM GPUs.
  • A single low resolution picture that tells us nothing visually and quickly about the exterior IO.
