Leaked AMD Documents Show New DX10.1 Feature; RV670 Superiority

While the NVIDIA 8800GT may be getting a lot of press, AMD refuses to let itself be forgotten about. Leaked documents show that the RV670 (HD 3800 series) will be well worth the wait for it. While people hear that the RV670 will be PCI Express 2 and DX10.1 compatible, have Unified Video Decoder (UVD), and be 55nm, this doesn't really amount to much if people have no idea what the benefits are from any of that. And so, this leaked document shows one of the many goodies waiting for potential RV670 customers, via a "global illumination" demo. The image on the left is rendered with DX10.1, and the one on the right is rendered with DX10.0. Vista SP1 will be built on the DirectX10.1 architecture.

The leak :) , and I PMed it to you before the INQ and others followed with it.

I posted it days ago in the video card section:)
You'll have to forgive me, I've been rather busy/sleepy lately, and I only like to post news when I want to, to prevent the section from becoming a crap-hole ;).

what? stuck with your 8800? seriously, there is a HUGE difference between two pics and if you didn't buy DX10 card for the best graphics, then why did you buy it lol

And just when I said that "if you can sell it to me I'll change from my AMD ATI ways". Well, my ATI ways aren't going to be changed anytime soon!

im not sure what aspect of the technology they are utilizing but ive seen and played dx10 games and im extremely impressed with the way it is now, if amd/ati could use a screen shot from a game rather than using their own "demo" stocked image comparison than maybe i will believe it but c'mon there example there giving is dx10 cards cant show balls on the ground? either way when a company cant keep up with its competitor then they have take extreme measures or get really low to presuade the consumer to buy this from the money they "could have have" earned during such and such year

"well worth the wait"

Yeah, just like the HD series, and the Phenom eh?

If ATI cant get their shit together and release a competitive product on time, I am getting a 8800GT this xmas.

I dont think ATI is "lagging" behind the competition. All the WR ocs have been with the HD 2900XT cards. All the big news, aside from the 8800GT *(which I think NV shafted folks on) is about ATI. SO I fail to see how they are "losing" and making stuff up. The demo used is simply one that does DX 10.1 and DX10.0. If a game is used, Id imagine the differences might be subtle.

If they have a feature that is not common, no game developers will code it. We are barely getting full DX10 compliance from newer games, never mind 10.1. It does look to be a nice item if a game is ever coded to support. The 2900 XT is already a competitive card even if the 3800 series was not released. This just gives us another good choice in the market.

And, if you have the means for LN2 supercooling and volt mods for suicide runs, the 2900 XT is one of the easiest to modify. Makes for a great choice on the bench front, that's for certain.

As for the 8800 GT, it is the NVIDIA mainstream product, not high end. The 8800 GTX replacement has yet to be released. If the 8800 GT is any hint of that capability, the successor will be a great card, as well.

Either way you go, these new cards are always getting better, which is always a good thing :)

I'm not to impressed by that pic from ati.. I mean if I owned a DX10 card and it looked like that shitty pic on the right I would spew....

That pic on the right is more like something from a MX440!!!!

But I could be wrong so we will see

I Think the comparison sucks all they trying to do is to make we belive the Dx 10.1 is far superior than dx 10.0 n the new ati rucks but i don't realy think the 8800GT or 8800GTX can't do the same way in terms of graphics compared with ati... i want to see a real benchmark, for me ATI prooves nothing till now they talk much around the HD2900 but is inferior to the 8800GTS why should we belive now???

It Only Proves that Ati sucks even more than we thought. They can't even handle a DX10 rendering in a simple Demo.

What can we expect from them in a Huge shadowed and textured Game.

Shame on you:shadedshu.

My DX9 looks better than That.

The 2900 is not inferior to the GTS. They trade blows depending on the game or bench. But I agree with the rest of your statement.

WHAT????

Nvidia couldn't bring a DX10.1 card to the market so AMD sucks? Nvidia couldn't do the true DX10 standard and held everyone up so Microsoft could redo the code. AMD has DX10 demos out there for there cards. I see Crysis is running just fine in DX10. The HD2900XT has been one of the top dogs in 3Dmark06. It's not my DX9 looks better than that, it's also rendering other stuff at the same time. This is a quick simple to your face pic that they are talking about. This PDF wasnt made for the average joe, and wasn't all fixed up for marketing.......

I'll never read the white paper as I don't understand it.

I'll just wait and see what price/performance it will be and when it'll be released. I'm planning on upgrading my graphic card in january or so (if I can get a job by then.. ;)) and then we'll see. I'd prefer an AMD-card though because I really like their AVIVO, but if they don't make something good and not to expensive by then I'm going for a 8800GT.

Can someone clarify for me, what exactly that pic is using to represent the difference(s), beyond the color of the balls?

Ok the ATi logo in the back is putting off light. The balls are probably being rendered by the card and with 10.1 it can render light over the balls like it should be done. every ball can rendered a different light path shadier from where it is at in the pic. What it is saying is that DX10 doesn't have that ability to do that. I would like to see the real demo of this and not just the screen shot of it.

Kinda humbles DX10.0 if it can't put some spit on some balls eh? Even a cheap hooker could manage that.

Though I'm not sold on anything from the picture, but thank you for telling me :)

nicely defended. Its very true tho, Nvidia couldnt get their act together for a functional card, cried a bit to microsoft, got ATI's fully working GPU virtualisation wiped away and then sang happy songs :shadedshu
