NVIDIA today published a new version of its GeForce driver suite, this time including Windows 7 in the update. Version 185.81 of the driver has been released as a beta, meaning it is unsupported by product warranties. The following changes have been brought about :
  • Adds support for CUDA 2.2 for improved performance in GPU Computing applications
  • Expands GPU hardware acceleration for the NVIDIA Video Encoding library to GPUs with less than 32 cores. Applications using this library include CyberLink PowerDirector 7, Nero Move it 1.5, Loilo SuperLoiloScope MARS, and CyberLink MediaShow Espresso
  • Accelerates performance in several 3D applications and, compared to Release 182 drivers, delivers:
  • o Up to 25% performance increase in The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena
o Up to 22% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with antialiasing enabled
o Up to 11% performance increase in Fallout 3 with antialiasing enabled
o Up to 14% performance increase in Far Cry 2
o Up to 30% performance increase in Half-Life 2 engine games with 3-way and 4-way SLI
o Up to 45% performance increase in Mirror's Edge with antialiasing enabled
  • Automatically installs the new PhysX System Software version 9.09.0408
  • Supports GeForce Plus Power Pack #3
  • Numerous bug fixes. Refer to the release documentation notes for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7

Updated with Windows 7 links. Great to see Windows 7 is now included in the updates :D

Now I can give some real Win 7 drivers a try, I hope you are right about them downclocking Live or Die, I have been using Vista drivers to solve that issue so far.

YAY...o wait, i just switched to ATI...
These driver updates really do increase performance, and it feels like even more than the %s they give (tested on 9800GX2) Course, after all was said and done, with the latest drivers, my 9800GX2 was beating GTX285s by 5-6%, except on crysis for some reason.

Ill give you an X850XT, it will perform better than the 8400GS. You know you want it, and i know you like AGP.

Edit: Just read your specs: You did upgrade!!! hows it going?

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but i notice if you uninstall the nvidia drivers in safe mode and boot back into normal mode, its easy to install them without any hassle and what you uninstall in safe mode, really does uninstall. Vista 32bit btw.

Its all about stability my friend. Even tho i notice these new drivers does increase gaming performance a bit, which is always nice.

I don't have AGP slots , i have one PCI slot and 3 PCIE slots, one of them being X16. So i am going to buy 2 PCIE cards sometime next month, one of them being most likely the 4670. Haven't figure out yet what nvidia card i am going to get yet.

Perfect, everything i want in a new system i have. I have a couple games install now, old ones say from 2004-2006, i use to get 17-40fps, now i get 100-200 lol. But once i get a new powerful card, everything will be better. :)

Alright i have these drivers install, but why is my desktop screen slightly cut off on the right side? Is there a fix for this?
Only seem to be happening with the 185.81 or higher?
Its not a big deal, but its kinda scary.

Center it(the picture)? Different graphics card, different resolution, different Hz give different picture positions on VGA, why not drivers as well.

u2konline: IMHO, consider a 4830 or 4770 before the 4670.

Still has some issues with correct 3d detection, Ive been wondering why its so hard for nvidia to implement that.
by Kursah (May 1st - 1:57 AM) - Reply
Hey this driver works with the old EVGA gpu voltage tuner 1.0, woot! good to have that little program back since they won't integrate it w/Precision!
by Flyordie (May 1st - 2:03 AM) - Reply
Nvidia decoupled their core... its virtually impossible to be perfect on 3D Detection when you do that.

works great, and now my 8800GT is not called Nvidia GeForce 8800GT (Pre-Release WDDM 1.1) just Nvidia GeForce 8800GT :D
