If the 58XX cards really do have 32 rops then the deciding factor on the HD58XX cards will be the rops, not the shaders,
for example
if both the 4890 and the 58XX were at a 1GHZ core clock with 4890's 40tmu's vs the 5870's 48tmu's, the texture fill rate on both should be 40,000 and 48,000 respectively, and thats not much of a boost at all,
if both the 4890 and the 58XX were at a 1GHZ core clock with 4890's 16 rops vs the 5870's 32 rops, the pixel fill rate on both should be 16,000 and 32,000 and thats a big difference.
ATI has only used 16 rops on their high end cards since the X1800/x800's came out, so it will be very interesting to see how their performance will increase with double.
