MaxLinear's Puma 8 DOCSIS 4.0 ESD/FDD Achieves Greater than 10Gbps Throughput

MaxLinear, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXL) today announced that Puma 8, its ESD/FDD DOCSIS 4.0 cable modem and gateway platform, delivers greater than 10 Gbps data throughput speeds as an Ultra DOCSIS 3.1 solution. With speeds close to PON fiber, Multi Service Operators (MSOs) now have a DOCSIS upgrade solution that requires minimal capital expenditure to achieve 10 Gbps service over cable versus the cost of a full-scale DOCSIS 4.0 infrastructure overhaul. For service providers who want to upgrade to DOCSIS 4.0 immediately, Puma 8 can be coupled with MaxLinear's single-chip, low-power DOCSIS 4.0 Ultra High Split (UHS) Upstream Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) that together can achieve upstream speeds of up to 7 Gbps based on 6x OFDMA channels in the 108 MHz to 684 MHz band and 1x OFDMA channel on the legacy 5 MHz to 85 MHz band.

Designed to handle next-generation applications requiring ever more data speeds - such as gaming, digital health, and 8k streaming - the Puma 8 single-chip DOCSIS 4.0 solution meets the needs of MSOs who continually grapple with the decision of when and how best to upgrade broadband service for their customers. As MSOs balance customer expectations of faster and more reliable service versus revenue growth and operational efficiency, Puma 8 offers an extremely cost-effective solution of a seamless upgrade path to Ultra DOCSIS 3.1 and DOCSIS 4.0. As more costly broadband PON technologies become standard for some networks, Puma 8 provides MSOs with the financial flexibility to scale their cable-based versus PON-based data services strategically.

Qualcomm Unveils 10G Fiber Gateway Platform for Ultimate Connected Home Performance

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. is ushering in a new era of home connectivity, and new opportunities for service providers, with the introduction of the Qualcomm 10G Fiber Gateway Platform and its signature feature, Qualcomm Service Defined Wi-Fi technology.

The overwhelming majority of subscribers experience their broadband service through Wi-Fi. In today's broadband systems, the access network from the service provider to the home and Wi-Fi within the home are managed separately - with a quality of service which is nearly impossible to maintain across the entire network, given the diversity of devices, applications, connectivity technologies, and the near-constant change across all these elements.

Comcast Demonstrates Fastest-Yet Speeds Over a Complete 10G Connection on a Live Network

Comcast, the nation's largest gig-speed Internet provider, today demonstrated the fastest-yet speeds it has achieved over a complete 10G connection on a live network, reaching download speeds faster than 8 gigabits per second (Gbps) and upload speeds faster than 5 Gbps. At an industry 10G event at CableLabs headquarters, Comcast also showed the 10G node technology that will help power its deployments and demonstrated how its network virtualization technology will seamlessly orchestrate mixed fiber and 10G deployments. 10G is the technology that will enable Comcast and other network operators to deliver multigigabit symmetrical speeds - combined with improved latency, security, and reliability - over the connections already installed in tens of millions of homes and businesses worldwide.

For the demo, Comcast connected a 10G-enabled Virtualized Cable Modem Termination System (vCMTS) linked by more than 80 kilometers of fiber to the demonstration site. The fiber terminated into a production switch, which connected to what is believed to be the world's first fully functional 10G-enabled Full Duplex DOCSIS 4.0 node, along with a 10G prototype modem at CableLabs headquarters. Today's demonstration is a first in a production-ready network environment, showing how live 10G deployments will work, orchestrated by Comcast's Distributed Access Architecture (DAA) technology, which is already widely deployed.

TrendForce: DDR3 Consumer DRAM Prices Expected to Rise by 0-5% in 2Q22 Due to Rapidly Shrinking Supply

Intel and AMD will be releasing new CPUs that support DDR5 DRAM solutions for PCs and servers this year. In response, the DRAM industry led by South Korean suppliers is developing solutions to complement the arrival of the new CPUs. In the midst of the gradual shift to DDR5, DRAM suppliers will also scale back the supply of DDR3 solutions, according to TrendForce's latest investigations. With Korean suppliers accelerating their withdrawal from DDR3 production, Taiwanese suppliers yet to kick off mass production using newly installed capacities, and Chinese suppliers falling short of their expected yield rate, the global supply of DDR3 solutions will undergo an impending decline. With respect to the demand side, however, not only has the supply of networking chips been ramping up, but material shortage issues are also gradually easing. As such, buyers are now procuring DDR3 solutions ahead of time, resulting in a tight supply and demand situation in the DDR3 market. TrendForce therefore expects DDR3 DRAM prices to recover from a bearish first quarter and undergo a 0-5% QoQ increase in 2Q22.
