PowerColor showed off its latest custom graphics card cooling solution, the Devil Hybrid. This particular sample was shown off on a Radeon R9 290X-based prototype, which will likely never make it to the market, because AMD AIB partners cannot unveil "Fiji" based parts just yet; but is expected to feature on AMD's upcoming graphics cards. The Devil Hybrid is a combination of an AIO liquid-based GPU block, and a conventional temperature-activated single fan heatsink for the VRM. The GPU block is plumbed to a 120 mm radiator, with a PWM spinner included. Given that such a setup could tame the R9 295X2, it could prove adequate for a single GPU.

PowerColor rolled out the Devil HDX PCI-Express sound card. Designed with a strong focus on output quality, and targeted at PC enthusiasts with high-end headphones, the card is driven by a C-Media CMI8888 native-PCIe master processor, wired to Wolfson WM8741 primary DAC, with 124 dBA SNR, driving the headphones and front-out channels. Amplifying this, is a TI LM4562 OPAMP, which is swappable.

Nichicon Muse electrolytic, and metalized polypropylene caps man all channels, reducing signal loss. Only the electrical portion features solid-state capacitors. The card draws power from a 4-pin Molex input. The entire audio area is electrically isolated from the PCIe slot power input. The main PCB features a 6.3 mm headphones jack, supporting cans with up to 600Ω impedance, stereo RCA out, and 7.1-channel optical SPDIF (TOSLINK) outputs. A daughterboard gives out additional analog channels and inputs via 3.5 mm jacks. On the software side of things, you get C-Media's Xear3D software customized by PowerColor, with ASIO 2.2 support.

Here are some of the first high-resolution pictures of the Radeon R9 285 TurboDuo graphics card by PowerColor. The card features a meaty custom-design cooling solution, with two twin-impeller fans, and a dense aluminium fin-stack heatsink. PowerColor didn't bother with a reference-clock variant of this card. It comes factory-overclocked, at 945 MHz core (918 MHz reference), and 5.50 GHz (GDDR5-effective) memory. It features 2 GB of it.

Based on the 28 nm "Tonga" silicon, the Radeon R9 285 features 1,792 Graphics CoreNext 1.1 stream processors, 112 TMUs, 32 ROPs, and a 256-bit wide GDDR5 memory interface. The card draws power from two 6-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort. With a modern XDMA CrossFire interface, the card lacks CrossFire fingers. It remains to be seen just how many cards the driver allows you to run in tandem. The Radeon R9 285 from AMD will launch on the 2nd of September, 2014. Prices start at US $249.

We went up close with PowerColor's air-cooled Radeon R9 295X2 Devil13 graphics card. Although technically an R9 295X2, the company is choosing to call it "dual-R9 290X." The card is massive, easily bigger in size than even NVIDIA's GTX TITAN-Z. It uses a huge triple-slot cooling solution with individual aluminium fin heatsinks for each of the two GPUs, and a base plate cooling the bridge chip, VRM, and memory; ventilated by three 100 mm fans that can be individually tweaked. The card draws power from four (yes, four) 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Display outputs include two dual-link DVI, and one each of HDMI and DisplayPort.

When AMD chose to give the R9 295X2 liquid cooling it had only one thing on its mind, to tame its noise. Given that, the question on everyone's mind would be how loud this air-cooled card is. PowerColor's card, much like AMD's reference R9 290X, features two BIOSes, "Performance" and "Quiet." Even with all the show floor noise, the card was audible in "performance" mode. We didn't get to hear it out in the "quiet" mode, but PowerColor assured us that it's working on getting the card quiet. Unlike AMD's reference card, PowerColor may have to stiffen the card's throttle to achieve that.

Some enthusiasts may simply not trust factory-fitted water cooling solutions. For such people and more, who'd like to keep their builds "dry," PowerColor is coming up with the first truly non-reference design R9 295X2, the Devil13.

Pictured below, the R9 295X2 Devil13 from PowerColor features a completely custom-design PCB that is said to feature a meatier VRM than the one you get on reference design boards; which draws power from 4 (that's right, four) 8-pin PCIe power connectors. The PCB appears taller but just as long as the reference one, and features a back-plate that doubles up as structural reinforcement. The cooler is an interesting piece of engineering. It appears to feature two independent aluminium fin heatsinks, each over one of the two GPUs, and a base-plate heatsink to cool the memory, VRM, and bridge chip. The contraption is then ventilated by three 100 mm fans that appear to feature lateral+axial hybrid air-flow blades, on their impellers. PowerColor could launch the R9 295X2 Devil13 at Computex 2014, if not sooner.

PowerColor has a knack of splurging on expensive, high-quality components on its PCBs (think International Rectifier and Coilworks VRM components, Samsung and SK Hynix memory chips, etc.), and we expect a similar treatment for the R9 290X PCS+. The two-slot cooling solution featured on this card is making its debut with it. It features a network of aluminium fin stacks to which heat is fed by copper heat pipes, and which are ventilated by a trio of 80 mm fans. PowerColor didn't reveal clock speeds, launch date, or pricing.
