PowerColor Announces PCS HD 4770 Accelerator

TUL Corporation, a leading manufacturer of AMD graphics cards, announces an upgrade to the HD4770 series, the custom cooled PCS HD4770. Manufactured with a cutting-edge 40nm process and using the latest GDDR5 memory, the PowerColor PCS HD4770 represents an industry milestone in the advancement of gaming performance.

The PowerColor PCS HD4770 clocks in with a 750MHz core speed and 800MHz of memory speed. Added to the HD4770 is our Professional Cooling Solution (PCS) made by ARCTIC COOLING. The specially designed 92mm cooling fan dissipates the heat from the GPU and memory more efficiently than a standard fan, providing a cool operating environment.

I just dont get this news.

1./ 4770 has been out a while... isnt the first para a bit out of date to be trumpeting info that has been quoted a hundred times already?

2./ "even more powerful". Er, what is so special about this 4770 edition? Same memory, same clocks, OH, a slightly bigger cooler. Does that warrant such a statement from the marketing people? Perhaps they have forgotton what WE WANT "more powerful" to mean! :banghead:

The difference between the normal HD 4770 and this PCS one is the custom Artic Cooler (L6, I believe) HSF and the non-reference PCB. Still the same size though..

Powercolor added a cooler that's better than the horseshoe the (cheaper) reference design carries. Rest is excusable hyperbole.

I for one say this is rubbish.

The 4770 doesnt really need a better cooler, it doesnt get as hot as its brothers and sisters (4800's and g92's and gt200's)

XFX put a non reference cooler (dual slot rear exhaust) on their 4770's (not all but they did) and it turned out to be worse than the reference cooler by about 5C both load and idle.
but since the reference cooler on most other 4770's was able to keep the load temps under 50C, is there really a need for a better cooler?

the only reason i can think of for a different cooler is for the vram on the board. neither the reference cooler or xfx's dual sloter did anything for the vram. no thermal pads or anything, they were just cooled by the air blowing by them.

so just maybe i have to change my mind if this new cooler by powercooler is actually helping out the vram.

Rubbish ? why is this rubbish ? they made a custom PCB , a better cooler ( i know the reference one is enough , but Arctic cooling HSF - lower noise , better cooling . More powerful ? maybe the card overclocks higher . How can you say it`s rubbish ? There are 2 non-reference designs out there , so any addition is welcomed IMO .

Improved PCB is the key to improved performance on the HD4770.

Sapphire has been sending out improved PCB boards on a few HD4770s but it has gone unannounced.

I really think the HD4770 is being kept on the down low to keep peoples eyes on the HD4850, HD4870 and HD4890.

40nm GPU power works very well in the HD4770.

I wish someone would make a low profile 4770. Maybe the hd5xxx series will bring a semi high end card to the low profile market. The best low profile card I could find from ati is this 4650 I am using.
