AMD Posts Catalyst 11.11c Performance Driver

AMD published the third performance driver based on Catalyst 11.11, the Catalyst 11.11c. The driver addresses some glaring issues ahead of the upcoming Catalyst WHQL monthly update. The new performance driver addresses the following issue:

Elder Scrolls Skyrim
  • Delivers AMD CrossfireX performance scaling for the AMD Radeon HD 5000 Series
Apart from the applied changes, the new Catalyst 11.11c includes all the changes brought about by previous Catalyst 11.11 performance drivers.

It probably won't say anything until 11.12.

This is not WHQL release.
Just download driver from here.

finally...

Why do I get the feeling AMD keeps their driver team locked up in a dark and dingy room... and just throws a few raw steaks in there every once in a while to keep them fed.

They lock them in the dingy room because they can't get it right first time

or

Because they're locked in a dingy room they fear for their lives and hold out on the working drivers.

Something's not correct with this driver. I even removed all mods and all ini tweaks and here's what I got:

With 11.11a disabling one gpu from the 5970 I used to get 40+ fps in the same place? :(

wtf AMD?!?
Even Image Quality looks better in my second picture?!?

I really dont think they have as many people as you would think working on drivers. Plus more drivers are better.

bostonbuddyanyone try this w/ a 69xx series?
They work exactly the same as 11.11b. No difference at all.

For the 6xxx series ok the 11.11b was the CF solution.

But this driver was supposed to solve the issue with Skyrim for the 5xxx, 4xxx and older cards and enable them to utilize crossfire (and not negative scaling where using one GPU gives more fps than using both) and certainly not expected to reduce image quality :shadedshu

There is no real CF solution for Skyrim other than disabling it IMO. I use 11.11 whql and 11.2CAP, no issues with Skyrim on a single card.

I get 99% usage on 2 GPUs out of 4, awesome framerates with 11.11b and 11.11c :toast:
Rocking atleast 50+ fps almost everywhere (I get 150+ indoor and 90-100 outside), can go down to 40-45 with low GPU usage in cities probably because this game is poorly threaded on the CPU side

Any good news for Batman Arkham City 5xxx crossfire family??

im starting to regret my crossfire decision. We've gotta wait for these dumb driver updates for individual games. It all just seems ridiculous.:banghead:

Maybe in a few more years they'll have the performance work across the board in a more generic way like a single gpu...

Honestly, all these game companies need to do is send an engine demo for a game to AMD and NVidia so they can work out the kinks while the game is being finished. Then just drop a driver update for the game rather than 3, or release that months driver after the game. But it should be much easier than they are making it.

Maybe if game developers and driver developers had ways to communicate more we could have a better support on day one, this would be good... really really good :)

I must say though that specifically talking about this game it wasn't in desperate need for CFX profiles as I could play it without any problem with 1 GPU off the 6990s at 2560x1600 with everything turned on Ultra and 8x AA.
The only issue I can think of without CFX is for triple monitor resolutions but that could be adjusted by lowering some eye-candy.

dont forget that any mods, replacement .exe's (the 4GB launcher) and the 'atiumdag.dll' file people were using on launch day, really can mess with quality/graphics and stability in skyrim. its not always the drivers at fault.
