Dynamic in-game advertising to come to Battlefield 2142

Digital Illusions and EA will bring in-game advertising into Digital Illusions' next PC title Battlefield 2142

EA has signed an agreement with IGA to bring in-game dynamic advertising to selected titles in a move to provide cross platform in-game ad solutions for global advertisers. The initial title to incorporate dynamic advertising will be Battlefield 2142 when it launches in October.

Through the agreement, fans of the franchise will see new, realistic brand presence integrated into contextually relevant game environments. Digital Illusions is entitled to a share of all the revenues generated from the advertising featured in Battlefield 2142.

Hmm interesting. I don't think I'd mind as long as the adverts didn't ruin the feel of the game.

Hopefully the ad servers are blockable just like in planetside ;)

I wouldn't mind it as long as it's on a bilboard of some-sort that's in the game and not just randomly popping up at the corners of your screen or something...

Yep it will be billboards etc from what I know of. I think this is a good idea tbh as it will give the game companies more £££ which in turn will hopefully reduce the cost of the games and probably give the workers the overtime pay they deserve :p

I have played games with this same basic technology used, SWAT4 has it, though when it was first released everyone freaked out and called it adware. Even though all it did was replace posters in the game for fake products with real ones and it only happened when you played multi-player. It isn't like it affects gameplay at all, but there will always be people that freak out about anything like this because they don't understand it.

Well I bet it doesn't make the game cheaper to buy so I don't think it's good. I think Enter the Matrix advertised Pentium 4... even on the PS2 version!

Apparently EA thinks that in the year 2142 there will be billboards on wargrounds.

Actually it was NVidia, it had that stupid circle with the saying "The way its meant to be played" all over the place. However, that wasn't dynamic, and I am pretty sure ad revenue wasn't generated off of it.

While this might not lower the cost of the game, it might mean that instead of having to pay for multi-player you will get it for free. So I don't see it as a bad thing.

Well last I looked BF 2142 was based on urban combat, heck a lot of BF2 was urban combat. So billboards aren't that out of place. And when you look at where a lot of todays wars are fought the trend is moving towards doing battle on the streets of a city and not in the middle of a desert of a jungle.

If it was almost any other publisher/game developer, I'd probably be all for it, because it probably would mean cheaper games with no subscription fees. EA is here to take your money. BF2142 isnt going to be super amazing, its meant to get people to jump in the bandwagon and get their friends to buy it, like intels Core 2 Duo. Its highly unlikely they'll lower the price of the game, and its highly unlikely that we'd get 'free subscriptions'. The profits generated from advertising will probably be used to give some corporate higher ups some more money so they can bribe Gates' and Ballmer's crew so they can get the haxb0x 720 for their kids before anyone else...

*Once again the battefield freezes and you´re watching your favorite ad*

This might happen if you buy the game and sign the "agreement", anytime.

Aside from that its astounding that they are trying to pull off even more
money, although cheaters all around. I do understand its hard to fight cheating
but did they put even a little effort into fighting them in BF2 ?

Why do you want to pay a premium price, watch ads and have the rest of the
game ruined by cheaters after only 6 weeks ?

not to mention only one good map so replayability after about the first 250 hours (reminiscing about karkand here) becomes nothing. :banghead:

In 5 years it will evolve into having an in-game popup... then get killed by other player.

Player 2: (thinks to himself) good ol' ad-spam hack... heheh

You know I KNEW this would happen.

its just like cable..when it first came out u payed for it so it was ad free. then we were addicted and here came the adds. then internet sites, we payed membership so they were addless, then we get addicted and soon enough they will also have adds. with video games, we already pay for the game and here come the adds...

I highly doubt game developers would put anything like that in their games that would make playing the game impossible.

i think i know how this will prolly work. as you join a new game u have to click threw a few adds to begin. then at every intermission or end of round u have to veiw more adds and then resume play... sound like tv a bit?

Or it might just put ads up on the loading screen. You don't have to click them or anything, they are just integrated into the loading screen.

Someone photoshopped some real ads onto the blank billboards from the 2142 beta-

Enjoy...
