eDonkey network shut down
It looks like eDonkey is gone for good. MetaMachine, the owner of eDonkey, eDonkey 2000, and Overnet has decided, under an agreement with RIAA, to immediately cease the distribution of its products and prevent file-sharing using current versions of their programs. Apparently, eDonkey has agreed to pay $30 million to avoid potential copyright infringement lawsuits from the recording industry, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
Other file-sharing companies, like Bearshare, i2Hub, WinMX and Grokster have been advised to shut down their networks, or be prepared for lawsuits from RIAA.
