Asus announces board with support for NVIDIA's physics card

While announcing their newest motherboard, the P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP, Asus accidentally explained the reason behind three PCI Express slots: an NVIDIA physics card. Both ATI and NVIDIA have been working for some time with Havok studios in search of a physics rendering solution. Havok is well known for creating physics engines for games like Half Life 2. The Asus board is designed to run a physics card alongside with Quad-SLI, and was built with the NVIDIA Nforce 590 chipset. The board is compatible with Core 2 Duo and has 4 DIMM slots for DDR2 533/667/800.

oops let that one slip didnt they hehehe what is the point of the phsyx card anyway is it like running a vid card / 3d card on the old school computers?

Well, as an example, when you play some Physics supported games, when you blow up buildings, the debris doesn't disappear, it stays there forever.

im going w/ user select betwenn 16/4/4 8/8/4 and maybe cause its new 16/16/4 that would be nice but the least likely

the onboard nvidia sound performes well enough i mean which would you reather have uber graphics or a 7.1 soundcard?

I'd rather have a powerful single GPU and a crisp soundcard that doesn't come with crackles :p.

The onboard sound on ASUS motherboards is generally very good anyway.

I use a headset, so i don't really care too much about sound. So my SB Live! 24-Bit is good for my uses.

just dont use a 3x monster video cards and you are good. somthing like quad sli and a 7600gt should be more then enough.

If your physics is 1 slot, and two dual-slot in sli, then you should have 1 left for whatever.

all this new card means is its something they will now leave off the combind graphics card, with all the power needed to run one of the regular graphics card surely the ppu could have been added to the cards themselves but rather than give the consumer an actual combined product advance they have decided to to make you pay more, it wouldnt surprise me if they decided to make it an essential for games. so an new VGA set up will cost near $800 for 1 top range vga and one ppu card

Yea a good headphones is seriously a plus if you dont have a sound card. Makes it sound extremely well. Plus XD for those who dont have sorround sound. Who rlly cares.

physics is nice, but ill be sticking to nvidias\atis software solutions where a gpu %can be assigned for physics. i wont waste money on a seperate card until its proved its worth

LOL when they release these cards they will nodoubt begin removing these features from the vga products making the ppu addons a necessity

your not going to be able to use a sound card... and the guys making [physics cards should jump from pcj to pcix16 and take advanage of the third slot....sorry for the typos i m using an onscree keybard

That's exactly what nvidia are doing... hence the 3rd pcie x16 slot ;)
