NVIDIA forbids factory overclocking of G80

NVIDIA has told all its partners that it will not allow for factory overclocking of it's cards. NVIDIA wants vendors to stick to the core and memory clocks that it sets, to prevent fiascos like what happened to the 7900GT. Overclocked editions of the card caused a very high return rate of the cards, and NVIDIA just does not want that to happen again.

On current factory overclocked cards, they usually don't overclock well. Companies that have bad overclocking cards usually clock them a few Mhz more so that consumers will want to pay the extra price for a pre-overclocked card. "Stock" cards overclock better than "Factory Overclocked" cards.

Good no more price jacking BS for a 15mhz oc. Some manufacturers were taking it too far, especially eVGA.

Yeah, eVGA and BFG. Seems like you cant get a non-factory OC'd card from them anymore.

So bad overclocking cards will just sell with normal cards now then?

This sounds like a good thing, the prices won't be so high. Not that I buy nVIDIA cards anyways, but still...:D

um.. Almost..

Manufacturer screening varied way too much for this to be true.

Especially gainward. their cards always kicked rear end (golden samples) because they purposefully used better ram, etc. ;)
Azn Tr14dZYeah...didn't evga start it?
Not even close. try gainward. ;)
