Tech Community Mourns Tom's Hardware's Bruno Gulotta, Victim in Barcelona

Recent events in Barcelona have brought the world's attention to that Spanish city known for Gaudí's masterpieces. It's not uncommon for us to process information on an event like this, mourn in the moment, and quickly forget that something happened. This is normal, human behavior - our own empathy can only take and handle so much. If it were not so, if we were nothing else but a sponge to suffering and empathy and the world's injustices, we'd have no way to cope with the reality we live in. However, we usually need only a slight link to an event for it to be that much real for us.

This time, the life of one of our own technology news community has been taken, alongside at least 13 others. Bruno Gulotta, Marketing and Sales Manager for Tom's Hardware, fell victim to the crime, leaving behind his companion, Martina, and two sons. In the aftermath of the terrorist attack in Barcelona's tourist focal point Las Ramblas, at least 100 other people were left injured. While we here at TechPowerUp didn't know Bruno Gulotta personally, we don't need to. This event is sufficiently real for us, as a technology news community, to feel it hitting close to home. When anonymity is removed, empathy is given permission to thrive, and empathy is one of the only ways we have of honoring the loss of life. Our mournful sorrow goes to Bruno Gulotta's family and friends, as well as Tom's Hardware. If you wish to lift the veil on Bruno, and keep him from the anonimity of being a number on a terrorist attack, go on to Tom's Hardware's beautifully written article, celebrating the life and contributions of a dear colleague.

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Let's leave religion as a whole out of this if we can, please, as it will just go out of hand.

Hey guys.

While I understand that this stems from a very polarizing issue, I think that there has been enough violence regarding this already that a no-holds barred discussion of the merits/shortcomings of religion/political forces doesn't warrant a place here.

This is supposed to be a story to mourn the loss of a life, not an argument to be brandished around for one's views of the world.

Let's try and keep this a place of respect and mourning, please.

There is a time and place for everything, but this is not it. Tom's let us know about the tragedy so we could mourn and celebrate his life, and getting into a heated discussion about causes, symptoms and effects takes away from the purpose of the post. You guys are free to create another thread and discuss this within the ToS of the website, but I request everyone again to kindly accept the OP's request on the discussion here.

There is very little respect left in this community, as you can see by your need to moderate this thread.

C'mon guys... this thread is to pay respect to the lost, not voice your personal opinions.

If you can't help yourself, I vote you get blasted right off this site forever.

My deepest condolences to Bruno's family. Though he was part of another site, we mourn him as a member of our tech community. To see a family left behind pains me whenever and wherever.

Besides TPU I also belong to Tom's family and this is a really sad day for me, although I didn't have the chance to know Bruno personally.

RIP Bruno and my deepest condolences to your family and friends. My thoughts now go to Bruno's wife and kids and to the families of the rest people that died this day :(

ps. Please leave politics out of this thread. I can understand that many of you are angry because of the lives that were lost. I am also one of them. But this is not the time and place to make such discussions.
