Star Citizen Introduces $27,000 Legatus Pack for the Elite

Star Citizen is once again making the headlines. On this occasion, the trending topic is the exclusive Legatus Pack bundle valued at $27,000. There are many things you can do with a sum of that magnitude like buy a new car, put a down payment for a house, go on a vacation, repay a student loan, etc. Oh, and apparently now you can be the proud owner of a fleet of spaceships in Star Citizen. The Legatus pack contains 117 spaceships and 163 extras in form of in-game items and skins. However, not any scrub can go out and buy the package. As a matter of fact, the Legatus pack isn't visible to the Average Joe's eye. To be eligible to purchase or even view it, you must have attained the concierge status. For those of us who aren't citizens of the Star Citizen universe, the concierge status is granted to backers who've spent over $1000 on the game. Is the Legatus pack out of your budget? Then perhaps you could be interested in a virtual lot of land.

Kind of sad that two of my favorite old school developers (Tim Schafer and Chris Roberts) seem completely hopeless if left to their own devices.

I loved Wing Commander....
I remember being excited about Star Citizen coming out 6 or 7 years ago but was turned off by "Crowd funding" and utterly stupid prices..
But none of that compares to the stupidity if this...

Schafer has delivered a lot of good games over the last two decades though--a lot of them novel too. Double Fine is the biggest studio I know of that's still indie at heart. Psychonauts 2 is the biggest game they're doing since Brutal Legend.

The warning signs are definitely there with Star Citizen. Roberts only got $40 from me and won't get anymore until what I paid for is delivered in full.

Is this package really worth the bad publicity they are going to get over it?

Not getting a cent from me for an unreleased game. They have had more than enough cash flow to develop it by now and yet it still isn't finished. It is either incompetency, either by goal creep or poor management ability, or it is a scam.

If they sell even ten?

...maybe.

I think they are just desperate though. This is sad now.

I don't know how competent these guys are to make a game of this scale but they sure as hell know how to run a profitable business.

CIG - like a bad DM (Dungeon Master or Games Master, in RPG terms).

Has more fun and spends more time making dungeon, drawing maps and character creation. Chris Roberts will probably die of old age making this game. Only to be bought over and released by EA, in a DLC format.

We can let you dump a fortune in our unreleased game but first we need some money from you. It's brilliant if anything.

I am an early backer with 1 small ship in hands(60$ package) and I been nothing but disappointed with the progress of this game.....It´s not even all the bugs, errors and glitches that is going on my nerves, nah thats kind of reasonable and could be fixed later(still some simple bugs didn´t been fixed for years) but really what is getting on my nerves are horrible flight mechanics and lack of the any important game play mechanics that is still missing after 6 years of development...also network issues didn´t improve at all and so called network bind culling is been delayed again&again.....instead of doing more work on important mechanics CIG acting like an JPEG-SHIP-FACTORY and keep making new SHIPS every month or so(now even tanks)......I can´t see that end of this madness is near, this could be probably the first time in history(at this scale)that some DEVS making more money during the development process of their product instead of the actual finished product.....

If you know the behind the scenes though, there was a lot of drama getting stuff like Psychonauts and Brutal Legend out. He only works well when someone higher up is twisting his arm. And so does Chris Roberts apparently.

According to their website, They have raised almost $187million

<Star Citizen PR Guy> "Oh hello Mr Roberts, What can i do for you?? What??? $187million isnt enough?? Your swimming pools filled with money are running slightly low?? Yeah. Dont worry, I'll get right on it"

As much as I know that people love Chris Roberts and Schafer and would not hesitate to suck at their teats when requested to. I cant help but be cynical about where the hell this money is going and whatever they have already released are nothing but buggy tech demos.

Do they really really need $187million to make just one damn game?? I know its going to be the holy grail of space sims but they havent shown much progress.

If I was Chris, I would of had the funding capped at 80 or 100mil then maybe have another wave of funding if it was really needed. Because that is a butt tonne of money and theres not a lot to show for what people are putting in.

I wouldn’t doubt for a second that Chris wouldn’t accept a kidney as payment at this point. With this move it’s obvious the dude has lost grip on reality...

I got a ship with my Optane drive. I guess I have nothing to complain about, since the drive is badass. And if the game fleshes out, so be it.

I don't think Chris has lost a grip. He's just susceptible to feature creep. He's brilliant otherwise.. but overthinks. This isn't the first game he's done this on... but before, he had publishers looming over him.

I wouldn't want these even if I did have the money. Having big starships was never a fantasy for me. My fantasy is to be that guy from the TNG episode "The Outrageous Okona" or maybe Spike Spiegel. The lone space trucker type.

It kind of sucks for anyone wanting to be part of a guild or group experience though.. because you'll want one of these rich bastards in your guild. And they won't be easy to find.

This goes on more often than you all realize with some of the stupid small pay-to-win games. Only the "whales" ever see the crazy offers from the gaming company, predatory.

That's the kind of cash Rockstar puts into a game. And they have released nothing but record breaking games in the last decade. This though ...
