Only 244 copies of Genuine Windows Vista sold in China

Microsoft spent millions of dollars advertising its next generation OS 'Windows Vista' in China, in fact the IT juggernaut threw up the biggest Vista Ad on the 421 meter high Jin Mao tower in Shanghai China. However after 2 weeks (Jan 19 to Feb 2) from launch Microsoft managed to sell a mere 244 copies of Windows Vista. Software piracy is rampant in the middle kingdom and a pirated version of Vista sells for a mere $1 on the streets.

RickyG512i beleive in cheaper price = more sales than high price = less sales

then can stille make the same profit or even more by lowering price and more people buying
I'm sorry but you know nothing of economics. Lowering the price, doesn't mean all of a sudden the millions of Chinese are just going to stop buying their $1 copies. It's not magically inversely proportional.

People can argue economics, politics, cost, whatever. The truth is in the pudding of that article. No matter how mad you get, how upset this make you feel if the article is true, then it's true. There is no dialogue needed as to what you "think" people should be doing. In all honesty this is one of the biggest OS buying statements I've read to date and I am sure it's ringing in the ears of MS loud and clear! China is not the only foreign market I've read reports like this.

a111087i lived in Kazakstan(central Asia), i had no choice but to buy pirated CD's. There is NO genuine software at all. you can go in to a pretty expensive store and all you will find is pirates selling their stuff :)
and even if there was genuine CD's, no one would be able to buy them. People there earn $100/month, so even pirated CD's that cost ~$1 kinda expensive too. (and they are made out of VERY cheap plastic, many CD's broke in my CD-ROM into pieces.

They have stores w/ pirated soft. in Kislovodsk, some stores even specialize in the selling of the pirated stuff

hey dood im with you all the way in your views of vista :toast:
I wish people would look at it the way you do more. I've used Vista Home Premium (whats premium about it i dont know). And all i found where horrid icons, which are hard to distinquish, a horrid start bar, a useless search function, a pointless aero thing (MAC DOES IT BETTER NO ARGUMENT), 30 clicks to my firewall, programs and features instead of add and remove, blurry fonts for words, a defrag that forgets to tell you thats its going somewhere, a disk cleanup that showed i had 235 MB or error dumps, a media center that doesnt know how to find media, 2 clean reformats, slow window opening, constant game errors, programming tool problems, no manual networking setup, and the question of are you sure you want to continue before i turned it off.

And the answer to those who say just dont buy it, the answer is no choice. Vista is being forced on us. No support from companies such as Nvidia, ATI and all other brands is available for Linux (heck mac is limited big time to, but thats jobs for you). It looks like Micro$oft basically told hardware venders to support their software only period plus gave them some $$ for doing so and continue to do so. (think about it why would hardware companies want to have to write evey driver again just for microsofts OS when they know they could do the same for Linux in a small amount of time and save money).

Trying it for a day when it first released doesnt count.

All this vista bashing just makes me lol at the collective-ignorance of people. Just a new trend in M$-hate.

LiNKiNUnfortunately, Piracy usually results in higher prices, which means when I get Crysis and switch to Vista, I'll probably have to pay more! :shadedshu
Yes, so many people forget about the downside to theft. The result is higher prices for those of us who are legit, and lower quality for the final product. However, MS should have put more money into hackproofing it.

It's still up and running.. oh wait, it's not running, becase it's in the middle of another system restoration from factory defaults.. thats how bad it sucks.. reformat number 6 or so..lmao.. yea i have no idea how bad it is. lol.. it's right here on another computer.. and it still sucks just as bad as it ever did.. anyone else want to tell me what i do and dont do? lol..

wazzle calling me ignorant is a sure fire way to a full blown argument.. do not insult me as i have not insulted you.

Lets not argue about vista. It is not mature, and bugs in something this young are not really fine, but semi-acceptable.

FYI, I used Vista RC2 for about 3 months... it sucked, windows tries to block control panel and stuff...

Seriously, I like Vista, and for an OS that just came out, the stability is impeccable. Its like calling a newborn a "dumbass", its just plain stupid.

That goes for all Vista whiners.

lol, this is not surprising what so ever, i can nt belive tha microoft believed that this windows would not be able to be cracked, baring in mind that people in microsoft are probably as knowledgable as people outside who deal with these things, it all fearness i dont think they diserver it, but for somethig that is been worked on so long and cracked so fast, makes me think that microsoft really need ro step it up a gear, its not that i dnt use pirated software, but an O/S should be the hardest to crack in terms of software, and in this case obviously not.

Long Live Linux :)

lol @ microsoft, ill give them credit for making vista an affordable option this time but by making premium versions and pricing them quite high when compared with with the basic vista it has no doubt led people just wanting to test Vista to go pirate.

overcastIf it was $50, you'd be crying that it should be $20 and so on and so forth. Microsoft does not "deserve" to be pirated. They make a product that 99% of the planet has chosen to use. Contrary to your delusions, no one is being forced to use it. This is business, and business revolves around making money. Get over it.
I do agree that Vista does not deserve to be pirated and I do not encourage that. I am a computer programmer, so I am on their side. :) But, I also took a lot of business classes in college, and I think that they charge way to much for their operating systems... especially since they limit each purchase to only one machine. Maybe a few times a year they could run a great special and hit the $70 range (no rebates please).

And now I will comment on your reply.

First off, I would never cry over software... I am to old for that. :) I simply believe in getting good deals. Heck, I do not have the World of Warcraft expansion yet because I feel that $40 is too much to spend when I am already paying $13 a month. When the expansion is down to $20, then I will buy it.

Second... if Vista was only $50, I would have bought several of them. As of now, I am sticking with XP. So, Microsoft is not making any money from me. I would never expect them to sell an OS like that in the USA for $20... I probably couldn't even find a CD and key for Windows 2000 for that price. Although, I installed Ubuntu linux on one of my old PC's and it is really slick!! Best of all... it was free... well, I later donated $20 because I liked it so much, so it wasn't really free. :)

Third, I am not delusional... I am far from it. I am sorry if I struck a nerve with you, that was not my intent.

Lastly, I think that attacking people that post on these sites and calling them stupid/delusional/etc. only makes the forums less enjoyable. I respect your views and comments, but I really am less apt to post in the forums if I am personally blown away. Go ahead and rip up my opinions and views, but please do not get personal. :toast:
