Moore's Law Alive and Well, We Will Exhaust the Periodic Table: Intel's Pat Gelsinger

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger in his InnovatiON keynote address exclaimed that Moore's Law is "alive and well," and that Intel is poised to be its faithful steward into this decade. Intel Foundry will "exhaust the periodic table" to find materials that advance silicon fabrication. The company plans to release four new semiconductor fabrication nodes in 5 years, and stated that the company's 18A node is close to building test chips on. The company hopes to see transistor-counts grow from nearly-100 billion transistors per package, to a trillion transistors per package in a decade. Gelsinger's statement comes hot on the heels of a statement by another tech giant—Jensen Huang of NVIDIA, who declared Moore's Law dead recently.

Valantar... yes, that is literally what the post you quoted said? 1/2 = 0.5.
It looked like either 1 nm or 2 nm, like 1-2 nm, written that way. It didn't look like a fraction.

How else would you write a fraction on a keyboard? I get the misunderstanding, but there's no way of putting it differently unless you use special characters like ½, which aren't necessarily easy to type (my phone keyboard does it easily though!).

Perhaps " 1/2 "? That's how I type fractions.

Ok, so after some research (just because, ok?) the amount of HNIW (Hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane, say that three times fast) that could fit in the assumed volume of a 12900K die would have a similar amount of energy as a small firecracker. Just about enough to lift your ln2 pot and let some smoke out.

Also, after you have *exhausted* the periodic table, and all known simple compounds after that, then hexanitrohexadecimalwurstisooctane (written from my memory) may be the next thing to try.

Completely agree. I can't see myself upgrading from my 5800X+6900XT in the next half decade, unless something breaks. I'll likely be moving to a higher resolution monitor from my current 1440p60 one, but that's more for work than gaming - FSR, or just running at non-native resolution in games (1080p with integer scaling should look good on a 2160p panel) will tide me over there.
You are limiting your enjoyment with a 60hz panel and that hardware.

That sounds perfect! Not enough to kill anyone, but enough to make damn sure you know when someone is pushing their chip just that little bit too hard :laugh:
