AMD Files Antitrust Suit Against Intel

Computerworld reports that AMD alleges Intel has "abused its dominant market position." With the lawsuit, AMD cited 38 companies that they believe were bullied by Intel into selling their products (hmm, Dell, anyone?). Intel had been investigated in Japan for bullying the microprocessor market and as a result, has to abide by new Japanese restrictions put on to the company. In Europe, the European Commission is also investigating Intel for antitrust violations. AMD's allegations are far reaching. They claim companies like Sony, Dell, Hitachi, Gateway, the old Compaq, Micro-Star (MSI), and Fujitsu Siemens were the target of a variety of unlawful business practices from Intel.

A "twist" to this news!

Along with the antitrust suit in the United States, AMD is suing Intel in Japan's court system for damages of at least $50 million USD. The reason? It started when Intel was ordered by the Japan Fair Trade Commission to stop giving "large sums of money" to PC makers in return to limit or drop AMD's products, the JFTC said this was in violation of Japan's anti-monopoly laws. Obviously AMD would've lost revenue from Intel's monopolistic actions, so AMD is going to court to get that lost money back.

I hope Intel gets some kind of punishment, not only a warning.
