Super Talent Launches 256GB SATA SSD

Super Talent Technology today launched a pair of 256GB Serial ATA (SATA) solid state drives (SSDs). Super Talent's new FSD56GC35M is 100% interchangeable with standard 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drives, but offers all the advantages of an SSD including greater resistance to shock and vibration, significantly lower power consumption and faster performance. FSD56GC35M supports a 0'C to 70'C operating temperature range. The firm also offers an industrial temperature (I-Temp) version of this drive, SS56GA6C35I, which supports an extended -40'C to 85'C operating temperature range. All I-Temp rated SSDs are tested at their rated temperature extremes to ensure functionality. Backed with a three year warranty, these 256GB SSDs are designed and manufactured in Super Talent's San Jose, California headquarters. Super Talent sells its SSDs directly to OEM customers worldwide. Both products are sampling now.

Can't wait for reasonable prices and availability. my heart stops every time i hear my dreaded mechanical "safeboxes" fire up :twitch: (one is 3 years old and the other is 7..)

That's hard to tell, considering the fact that it's being shipped to OEMs, which means they decide what the price is.

Awesome, I'll be keeping my eye on this for price/availability. When I can get one on Newegg for under $100 shipped, I'll get it. Until then, I think my 160GB hard drive will do just fine ;).

Can I quote you on that in about a year? ;)

Have you forgotten how quick prices can sometimes come down? All it takes is a little honest competition.

But, anyway -- it's about time I saw one of these SSD drives for sale in a 3.5in format. However, I'd be happy with a 32GB one.

Who needs to use that kind of memory in -40C? Maybe the army or some federal researchers in Antartica...Not much buisness unless the army buys large quantities and I highly doubt that they would do that..:slap:

You've obviously never worked in any kind of government setting. The Army would buy huge quantities of them for twice the retail price, after which they'll promptly sit in a warehouse somewhere gathering dust for the next 30 years.
