Sony PlayStation Home Open Beta Starts Tomorrow

PlayStation.BLOG reminds today that PlayStation Home will enter into open beta, and will be available to everyone tomorrow. PlayStation Home is a 3D social gaming community available on PS3 that allows users to interact, communicate and share gaming experiences. Within PlayStation Home, users can create and customize their own unique avatars and explore virtual community in real time where they can communicate freely through text or voice chat. PlayStation Home users will not only be able to enjoy variety of entertainment content such as mini-games, videos and special events along with their friends, but will also be able to create their own community by starting clubs with other PlayStation Home users who share the same interests. Even purchasing customizable furniture and designer clothes will be possible with PlayStation Home. That's only a fraction of the features that will be available initially, not to mention that this is not a final version and there're still many updates to come. PlayStation Home, available as a free download starting December 11th, will launch directly from the PlayStation Home icon on the PlayStation Network column of XMB (XrossMediaBar) on PS3. After that date, SCE will vigorously promote the service and work with its partners to introduce new services. If you want to know more, hit the source link.

This is probably at least partially attempting to combat the "Mii" that you can make on Wii. Or something like that. I guess it'll be nifty for just chatting and messing around with and/or waiting for your friends while you plan a game.

I think a lot of Xbox Users are getting jealous hehe.

I think this is kool. It does remind me of the Mii thing on the Wii except on Crack and more Simish.

I really dont understand HOME at all. I own a PS3 and have tried the beta, and it just seems a bit "wtf is this for?" if you get me.
its for people who dont have real friends ............ and who like to be someone else , like that marriage wrecking game called second life.

for people who use it for entertainment and connect with real life friends then no hurt , but generally these games are catering to the people who are not so social in reality but enjoy it in virtuality.

Agreed, but it'll be ok for a sort of "lounge" for gamers waiting for their friends to get online or something and for some reason or another don't feel like doing so by playing an actual game.

Initial download size is 77mb:eek:

I guess the size of Home will increase as you explore...similar to MMO's.

EDIT: After install, it says that it reserves 3GB of hard drive space...So total is 3077MB.

I have a PS3, but I probably won't use this much.

I go outside and talk to my friends in person.
