XFX Radeon HD 4850 and Radeon HD 4870 Pictured

XFX seems to be ready with its initial lineup of graphics cards. Some European retailers have even begun listing their products and pricing. While there's nothing really interesting about the way XFX is pricing its cards, the way it's cards seem to be certainly interesting. Pictured below are its first two models based on the ATI Radeon HD 4850 and HD 4870 graphics processors.

Some surprises: Both use black coloured PCB, neither are 100% reference ATI design, and in fact, XFX designed its own cooler for the Radeon HD 4850 512 MB (model: XFX HD485X-YDFC). The Radeon HD 4870 in the picture is the 1 GB variant (model: HD487A-ZDFC). Both accelerators use AMD reference clock speeds. These cards will be released within the first two weeks of this month. More information as we come across.

There's a typo in that third pic showing HD 4850 and HD 4830 having GDDR5 memory, they don't.

If they made a GDDR5 4850 I would probably buy that. I do like that 4850 tho... I have a good deal on a 4870 right now, if that shows up on newegg for 150$ its mine.

i love how the 4850 looks like it could be a NV card, but they both look very very ugly

4850 IMO is the best card on the market for the money. If they put DDR5 on it that would kill its price/performance ratio.....unless they kept the same price :D

I love ATI but EVGA has the best looking cards hands down.

The card on the left just looks wrong. XD The one on the right isn't too bad looking. I'd buy either one. :)

I got my 1GB DARK KNIGHT Asus 4870 for 249.99 from the egg, it was only 20 bucks more than the 512mb one so I had to take it. I expect it to be around the same for XFX.

nice looking cards, glad to see they are not reference design cards like XFX putting stickers on ATI designs

I love the look of left one. It's like it has been taken from some retro science fiction movie.

xfx cards are always great quality (i consider them just behind EVGA). all i worry about ati cards is the cooling.

Since I'll be getting rid of my 3870X2's I think I'd go for a pair of the XFX 4850's.

It is about time that there is some competition for Sapphire, looks like they are ATI's only partner. XFX sold some very nice nvidia vga cards, so I hope they can do the same with ATI.

Good point, that really is the only difference since technically the gpu chips are the same.

The 4850 cooler really impressed me, that looks to be the same fan the 4870x2 uses and if it is, that thing really moves some CFM.

While XFX may be rad for offering lifetime warranty they blow big time for not offering it to us Europeans :shadedshu
