No deal between Dell and Alienware

It seems that there will be no deal between Dell and Alienware. According to a Dell company spokesman who denys the rumors that Dell bought Alienware, this is a bit much of a speculation. Here's what he has to say:
I'd suggest you take that speculation with a grain of salt given the origin stated in the blog (Alienware's competitor)--you can never be sure what the motivation is," McKeon told ZDNet Australia via e-mail. He also questioned the reasons behind such an acquisition, stating that Dell has the potential to be seen as a "cool" company and is more than capable of building viable gaming machines without Alienware's help.

It was so funny reading the responses, the flames, after hearing the first speculation that Dell bought Alienware. Shame on those who believed the rumors. Rumors are only rumors =P

It worries me that reporters are starting to use blogs as "reliable sources." How stupid of a reporter do you have to be to believe that a blog is a reliable source?

This is like me saying, "I was talking to W1zzard last night and he told me that he will no longer be making new atitool versions." and everyone believing me because I posted it on a respectable forum and I have quite a few pretty little stars.

I'm not talking about you Darksaber I was referring to the Cnet reporter citing a blog as one of his sources.

It was stated right in the news post that it was unconfirmed by both companies.

I always shudder when I hear/see a news reporter qoute a blog, or even some websites. You can, as "they" say, find anyone who says anything on the internet. Oh. And in response to Dell saying they have the potential to be seen as cool, well... I don't see them as cool, and quite frankly don't really see the potential at the moment :) .

i've been stuck on a mid-range dell for the last week while waiting for a new montherboard... i hate dell sooo much... :(

Sorry, a little of topic for a second there.

I believed the roumors too, and was shocked by ailienware. I'm really glad they didn't sell out, would be such a let down. I wouldn't like to own one of their computers, but i respect the company big time for doing soo well in their market segment. Who knew there would be so many people with that amount of cash to spend, without knowing anything about computers.

What did they do Thermo? Also, Dell is retarded to be doing that. Has anyone seen the XPS series?!?!?!?! Sure I'm biased because I just converted my laptop into one, but I'm sorry, I'll take an awesome XPS M170 over any Alienware laptop EVERY day. Alienware had nothing to compete against Dell with the XPS series laptops. The desktops are another thing, Alienware definitely made it look better than Dell there, but Dell was very close. PLUS, for performance to price Dell beat Alienware (not by much), and it offered almost as much as Alienware ever did for hardware selection. Hopefully this was just to get the biggest competitor out of the way, or to gain attention from everyone as being a cool company (like in the first post), and because EVERYONE knows the Alienware name, maybe Dell will get more sales. But stupid in my opinion

I think I've said it once before, but...does this really affect any of us? :p Oh wait yes it does...AMDcam forget about your very nice laptop for a minute . I think that as long as we build our own systems, dell won't benefit at all from buying alienware. And last time I checked corporations couldn't buy people lol.

lol okay. But I think that the general public who associates Alienware with being the best will get more sales for Dell if Dell did buy Alienware. Not from us though, no way, who BUYS a pre-made desktop?!?! ESPECIALLY from Dell? But for the general public I think it will increase popularity to Dell.
