AMD BGA 2197
The AMD Ryzen 4700S is a desktop processor with 8 cores, launched in June 2021, at an MSRP of $399. It is part of the Ryzen Embedded lineup, using the Zen 2 (Renoir) architecture with BGA 2197. Thanks to AMD Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) the core-count is effectively doubled, to 16 threads. Ryzen 4700S has 8 MB of L3 cache and operates at 3.6 GHz by default, but can boost up to 4 GHz, depending on the workload. AMD is making the Ryzen 4700S on a 7 nm production node using 10,600 million transistors. The silicon die of the chip is not fabricated at AMD, but at the foundry of TSMC. The multiplier is locked on Ryzen 4700S, which limits its overclocking potential.
With a TDP of 65 W, the Ryzen 4700S consumes typical power levels for a modern PC. The highest officially supported memory speed is 7000 MT/s, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. Actual memory technology support depends on the chosen motherboard, the processor itself supports multiple memory types, but most motherboards have only one kind of slot. For communication with other components in the machine, Ryzen 4700S uses a PCI-Express Gen 2 connection. This processor does not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card. Inside the box you will not only find the processor, but also a Yes cooler.
Programs using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) can run on this processor, boosting performance for calculation-heavy applications. Besides AVX, AMD is including the newer AVX2 standard, too, but not AVX-512.
