EA takes in-game advertising too far with Battlefield 2142

EA games should be ashamed of themselves for pumping out sub par software that is always in need of a patch. I am a driving game person and the only good Need for Speed titles were Need For Speed II Hot Pursuit, and the Porsche Unleashed series. All the rest were arcade style joke games that placed 0 emphasis on actual driving and more emphasis on attracting children. And Need For Speed Most Wanted is FULL of advertising garbage. I would sell it if I could make 1/2 my money back. It can sit in the box on my desk and rot.

I've been playing BF2142 since the first beta, and I must say that the game is absolutely crap!

For starters, everyone who hasn't got a new computer will not be able to play the game, since there are massiv performance issues i.e. I can run BF2 1280*1024 @ 60-80 FPS where as i get 20-30 in BF2142 even though they use the same core for the application.

The second mistake from EA Games side is that the hitboxes actually are much worse than in BF2(And everybody who plays BF2 know that they suck in BF2!), it's incredible that a major company like EA can't produce a decent source code for a game that has such huge potential as BF2 and BF2142.

bf2 started like crap also, but the cat drivers usually fixed that.

also...i will say this again, no spyware! its all ingame monitoring.

What's your point? No one is forcing people to buy Sims. This is as bad as the Vista debate, IF YOU DON'T WANT TO USE IT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO.

No nobody is forcing anyone to do anything but the amount of advertising is over the top, we see it everywhere in our everyday lives, posters, tv, internet (damn those pop-ups :D ) but now they've stuck it in the only thing that we all love to do, gaming. (until now of course) Oh and what happens when more companies decide to put advertising in any of the games you play overcast? and what if it is those annoying adverts that you hate to watch on tv but now its on your game and you cant just flick the channel because you are about to pwn noobs

EA has published a CONSIDERABLE amount of quality games, so get over yourself and stop jumping on the complaint bandwagon. Command and Conquer series, Battlefield Series, Need For Speeds series....SIMS??? The undeniable #1 selling series.

You'll also notice all of those games were flogged to death years ago :)

Yes, thats why the track intenet browsing.

Stop trying to believe EA can do no wrong like every other BF2 fanboi and admit it. :banghead:

There has to be spy-wear running in BF2, I mean how do they know how many bullets I shot.:wtf:

The games should be atleast 1/2 priced if we're forced to deal with in game ads. This is ridiculous on a whole new scale. And I agree, this is blatent spyware and should be blocked. And BF2142 seems to be picking up with all the problems that BF2 left off with.

The physics and controls in this game are far worse than the ads. Let's not forget 1152x864 maximium resolution, ridiculously long load times and 'shader optimizers'. You can't tell your enemies from your friends, so you might as well shoot 'em if you're not sure. Oh... and in the year 2142, is there supposed to be moon-like gravity? - or did they just not spend enough time making this a decent game?

1152x864 maximum resolution LOL\
2142 sees the maximum you monitor supports, I can run the demo at 1600x1024.

That is funny,...My NATIVE is 1280x1020,...and the DEMO runs that funky lower Res of 960? :twitch: What is going on here if it is supposed to "see" my monitor's resolution?

hey lemmee put it this way c&c GOLD was the best c&c ever and so what there a few adds i wanna see them react when i toss a 'nade at them that would be cool if it learned that maybe i dont like that particular add and put up new ones like it learned something (then i could throw nades at the new ones to) maybe they should just put up billboards w/ bushes face on them that would sell the game all on its own

lol :D yea they somehow pick up players shooting at the ads - a whole new way of saying piss off :D

You're right, I have the same problem with my demo.

+menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

Add that to the target box in the properties of your shortcut. Just change the resolution to whatever you want.

Show me a screenshot of the options menu where you can select 1600x1024 and I'll send you $10 through paypal. on top of that, show me any game with the option of 1600x1024 (There is no monitor with this native resolution.)

I can run the game on my monitor which is 1680x1050, but it just stretches to match my screen. the game does not output higher than 1152x864 (even in the demo).

There is no argument here, they shouldn't put ads in our video games PEROID. The problem is, that they KNOW people will buy it anyway. If everyone that wants it said, "we wont buy unless you remove the ads and spyware", then they would be screwed.

What gamers don't realise is that WE are the people that make the game companies rich. Of course, we won't stand together, because most of you don't care if they are lurking around on your harddrive. I do care if someone is collecting information about me.

You better pack your bags, unplug from the internet and go find a cave somewhere to live out your life. Information is being collected on you , on a minutely basis. Every single website on the internet, sets some type of cookie on your computer. There is absolutely no difference in this. They are displaying ads based on a cookie on your computer, just like every other website and their mothers. If you honestly believe there arent' miles of logs tracking your every movement on websites, you've lost it.

The reason I'm still buying it despite ads is that my personally feeling is that they won't have a huge impact on my gaming and lots of people have over-reacted to them.

True, but I clean my cookies every day and try like hell to keep spyware off. I am certainly NOT going to give ANYONE permession to collect information. If they do it dehind my back, the only thing I can do is try to get rid of it, allowing it is a completely different story.
