Anyone knows what will happen if i upgrade to ati 5770? I really want to buy it cuz i have all the money. Pls help me

you should see a performance increase in games, with the way newer games are designed, they are more dependent on GFX cards that CPUs

I think you will be somewhat bottlenecked by the single core K8 processor running at 2.2ghz and 1gb of RAM running in single channel. I would upgrade the cpu/motherboard/ram before the graphics card.

My exact post written by another man. :toast:

I don't think your power supply (350w according to your system specs) is going to be good enough for a 5770. Also you're CPU is going to bottleneck the videocard like crazy.

Buy a new motherboard, CPU and power supply first dude.
THEN buy you graphics card.

you need to replace that PC before considering a GPU upgrade.

single core, 1GB of single channel ram, 350W PSU? no way.

5770 consumes about half the power of a 4890 under load and a 5870 consumes about the same as a 4850.

I say try to get rid of your current machine (sell it locally?) and start all over with a 5770 plus whatever else you want. If you start mixing new hardware with your current stuff, you'll end up with a frankenrig, and no one except the guys over in the ghetto mods thread like frankenrigs

So what are the specs you guys recommend before buying 5770?
I already have listed some:
CPU: Phenom II X2 550 be
Ram: 2 Gb ddr3
Mobo: Maybe a help here from you?
PSU: No prob cuz i will get my friend's 550 W

my suggestion for a cheap build:

AMD 780G/785G board from gigabyte

Athlon II x3, they're cheap and the extra core is gunna help in the long run
4GB of DDR2/DDR3 ram (your choice, DDR3 is more expensive here)
5770 1GB (dont go 512MB!)

as for PSU, you dont mention what model... there are some 550W models that have less power than some 350W PSU's - but with that said, the specs i listed above are very low power.

Quality corsair 420w would be just about enough fro that combo dont u think?
Or Thermaltake 600w would be nice too.
The one i have on the sig is up going from 2007 jen and has fed A LOT of h/w/!!!
DUO/QUAD/4850s xfire...
So with a PSU of 70/80EUR 600w he ll be fine i think...

corsair 400W would cover it fine. my 780G media system uses ~60W of power at idle, near 100W at load - with a 5770 it'd be lucky to hit 200W at full load.

Point stands however, that if its a cheap unit with say, two 15A 12V rails - most of that power would come off the first rail and could cause problems.

No idea if your case is at a good standard for cooling and your friends "550W" psu doesn't really sound promising unless you know what brand it is.
This what i would buy from what i can see from your current rig.

why the GA770? he could save money and get a 785G board, they're cheaper, feature packed, and OC just as well

I don't really see the problem with TRYING to use any old 550Watt PSU. What are the chances it could have less than two 14amp rails? I say let him try. Maybe I've built so many systems that I don't see the problem with running any old generic PSU. Yeah they have more tendency to fail than enterprise class PSUs but they are also cheap and readily available. And the thing about a bad PSU taking a system with it is just an old wives tale IMO. Again, dealt with many many regular-ass builds and never seen this happen.

I don't see any cheap deals with the 785G on newegg, their all over 150 bucks or something.

even if it has 2x20A rails, we dont know how old it is, or what condition its in. PSU's do deteriorate over time, cheaper ones going faster. Specs could say 2x20A, but cause of a leaky capacitor and dust build up, it might crap out at 15A - thats the concern.

fair enough. not exactly a newegg shopper here

Those concerns wouldn't stop me or any joe builder from giving it a shot.

agreed. he can give it a shot - but if he's got the budget, get the PSU from the start.

Neither do i but i do check newegg for people even though i live in the UK,its nice to help people.:)

Actually, if op has been running that rig for so long, there is no point upgrading, just wait for the rig to die and then think about upgrading. Athlon II X3 gets my vote, along with the cheapest 7xx board and wait for Nvidia to come out with their DX11 before buying any Gfx card, by then the prices should drop by a substantial amount.

nvidia DX11 is a long time away - 5770's are great bang for the buck right now.

Ok guys, so i better upgrade the rig, but without a graphic card till nvidia comes out. Lets say in april time, i am going to buy an 5770 cuz i am extremely low on budget.
200-250$ :S
I really think to buy 5770 till now but the best deal is to wait till april for nvidia.
Athlon II X3, ram ddr3 and the cheapest mobo AM3 possible should come nearly to 200$
Pls send me a photo of the three in newegg or smth like that
