Interesting.
you know, a big part of why I am so "vocal" about ATi issues is:
#1:
I have two 5870 Crossfire systems now. One is overclocked, the other is not. Both have the exact same issues. Both are "All AMD" builds, using 790FX chipset.
#2:
All things point to the issues I have as being very much hardware-based. Every driver up to 10.7(where's 10.8?) has the exact same problem...whether Crossfire is enabled or not.
You've seen my pics, I assume, of the cursor corruption, so you'd know that I have these issues not just in games...but even just at the desktop. OpenGL, DirectX, 2D, 3D, all have this issue. I've tried every possible driver tweak, and done extensive testing on this issue...such that I can make it happen. Because of my testing, I don't see drivers as being able to fix this problem.
#3:
Fan issues. My cards overheat, but the fans never spin up over 60%. This is a driver issue that has been present since launch, like the multi-monitor issues.
#4:
DisplayPort issues. I also posted pics up of the 6 Dell monitors that only work 100% since 10.7. I am very glad this problem has been solved by AMD, but it was almost a year before a fix.
#5:
For emerging tech, these problems are unacceptable. One of the biggest things this gen is multi-monitor, but that's where all my issues occur. Single monitor, no problems, what so ever.
So, as a consumer, my confidence in ATi has dwindled with each driver release. If it was one problem, OK, but when you add the fact that I am not alone with these problems, this really speaks volumes about quality control here. All these cards should have been tested for multi-monitor function, but clearly this is not the case, or myself and others wouldn't have these issues. Because I used to be such a huge ATi fanboy, I'm holding out here for ATi to fix these problems, but chances are, I'll never buy another Ati card ever in my life. I can't support a company that releases products in this condition.
