Can't wait to get my hands on a 6970 :) I've sold my 5850 crossfire for it :)
Even if the performance will be 20-25% less than the crossfire, I will be happy with it (untill I save for a second one).
Now playing with a 6870 that I will use in the second system (HTPC).

If buying a card today I would take a 460 over the 6850 just becouse of the price, 460 as low as $150, 6850 $200. I have a 6870 so its not I'm a Nvidia fan, just the 460 is a better deal for the moment

and your kicking with a q6600@3.4ghz like me :toast:. haha i love seeing people that still haven't upgraded their trusty old c2q like me. I simply haven't found the need yet and graphical upgrades will always outweigh my c2q being upgraded. Won't surprise me if my c2q will suffice for another 2 yrs.

EDIT: OUR c2q's lol

Out of curiosity i have to ask, are you quoting a 768mb or 1gb 460 price?

Yeah, the 1GB 460 version is about £150 in the UK, as are the 6850's, so no price diff there. There was also a MSI Twin Frozr 5850 at OcUK for £150 (now up to £170).

Uh, if people are paying the price, then it's not gouging. It's what the market will bear.

I won't pay over $240 for a 6870, and wish others wouldn't as well.

But they don't put them at that price if no one is willing to pay it.

:wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:

That is all:D

the novelty will deliver performance comparable or higher than the GeForce HD 480, but will not be able to compete head-to-head against Nvidia Corp.'s new flagship offering, the GeForce GTX 580.

that's exactly what I was thinking, faster than the 480, slower than the 580. This would be expecially true since nv was very quiet with the launch of the 580 which would make the 480 the target card to beat when developing and finalizing the 6970, they could change some clocks to push it over the edge, but that may hurt them in the heat and fan noise departments.

... but that means that AMD greatly underestimated nVidia; BIG mistake :wtf: ... I hope that the selling price for the 6970 will be reasonable though  ...

To quote the source:

We believe that the [Radeon HD 6900] will be the No. 1 on the market and no one [will be able to] compete with AMD

30-50% better than 6870..
40% puts its equal or better than 480.

Well, 50% puts it fairly equal to 580 in some cases.
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_580/27.html
6870 is 73% the performance of a GTX 580.
480 is 90% the performance of a GTX 580
if 40% better than 6870 makes it equal or better than 480, then 50% will take it right to the GTX 580's door.

I think it may be closer than some folk are calling it.

I really hope that the 6970 is around as powerful as the 580 and if I'm lucky cheaper, cooler and with lower power usage... ok just around the power of the 580 would be good enough as all i want is a single card to run 3 monitors.

After some playing around on just one of my 6870s's i have found out it has the power to run most of the games i play almost maxed out at 5040x1050 i think one major thing holding it back from fully maxing settings out is the 1gb memory with such a high res, hopefully a 2gb 6970 will perfect for me.

If the HD6970 ends up being around the same performance of the GTX 580 then I would find that disappointing, I was hoping a tad more then that, but time will soon tell, I just wish Dec. 12th would hurry up:banghead:

HD6970 performance extrapolation from AIB source.

Going on info from a Powercolor Rep about the increase in performance of a HD 6970 over a HD 6870 (30- 50%) I plotted out a spreadsheet with what those numbers mean with reference to W1zz'z GTX 580 review.
It's a completely unbiased and factually accurate representation if what the Powercolor Rep said was true. Green shading is where the 6970 beats the 580, going on those 30-50% figures.

Anyone has an idea of the Radeon HD 6950 retail price ? If the 6870 is at ~240$, is ~330$ a good bet ?

Benchmark Scores This varies from one driver to another.

That may not be real. The zero is smaller for "30". The "3" in 32 appears to be a different font. Also, the "0" in 1920 also appears to be smaller and doesn't seem to line up flush with the other digits as 0's in 1600 beside it. But we will have to wait and see once the card is released though.

I agree with East Coast, certain numerals look 'wonky'. And i never trust 'leaked' slides in low definition. Proper leaks tend to be more robust looking.

yea. Too be honest. Maybe AMD is bs'ing, it has higher performance or at least performance potential, so they're saying 30-50% when they know it can reach like 60-80% better. But if they handicap it, they can play the price game and still sell more and win marketshare, then unleash the performance when Nvidia comes out with their "GTX (8800GT)" card, but under a respin. IE: HD 6980, HD 6960, n so on.

Hopeful thinking for AMD i guess haha. I don't want to see them fall back this fast, they've had ample time to make some blow your mind shit so i can't believe it if they don't have more cards to play.
