Wanna Try Out New TechPowerUp Design?

Looks nice but I noticed that the Helvetica fonts are good for presentations with small not much data in them and there are better looking fonts for stuff you put a lot of information on.
Just my observation at work as we have those thin sexy helvetica fonts as company standard (Orange).

Good point with the number of lines, also the spacing between <ul> in Today's reviews could be smaller.
Maybe its personal, but classical stuff looks more professional to me. Juicy looking webpages make me suspicions ^^

firefox and chrome render almost the same, ie renders too light. i made it a little bit darker, will think about a different solution

borders of the coments under news itslef are also faint. makes very hard to make difference between posts (or at least for me). border line in reviews section is displayed as it was before in old design. ie8, win xp 64. later will give feedback from opera/win7

edit: color of the links under new forum posts is not changed when thread has been viewed.
size of the today's reviews links is more readable now but if you going to reduce it please dont make as small as it is on current design.

New design looks great :D

This is closer to what I meant. Still doesn't look quite right to me though.

These graphs looks much better IMHO. No more overdone bevel and drop shadow. Title row has more contrast so text is easier to read.
I would love to see the text on the bars, judging from old graphs it would benefit from somewhat darker text outline (because now gradient goes horizontally).
Great job, I like it a lot :toast:

I like the fresh new look, but why doesn't the page expand all the way across on a 1920-width monitor? The old version does and it looks better for it in this respect.

Positive feedback...

While on my 800x480 mobile screen landscape, the picture viewer pop up actually puts the slides in the middle of my screen, instead of the middle of the page, no matter what the zoom is.

2560x1440 , looks prettty :)

good input, i wasn't aware of that. but even the new design is wider than 90% of sites on the internet?

old old remnant. does anyone actually use them to reduce width below the fluid default?

Yes, TPU's main page is typically wider than most sites i visit and forums come to think about it.

as what viper was on about it i never noticed it lol. Maybe add it and maybe you can monitor if people click it or not to see if it does get used as guests might be using it just as much as members.

Maybe some thing like that could be linked to the account of the user on how they like it so they would not have to keep changing it ?.

I am not having this issue on my 1920x1080 monitor, I get full page across.
EDIT: opps actually it is like you said, I must of some how been on the non dev by clicking on a link or some thing.

that is good point. i havnt noticed those buttons so far cause i like full widith sites and since i currently see tpu full widith on both monitors i use 1920x1200 and 1440x960 i havnt any complains. most sites i usually cross arent full widith so i learned to live with that long time ago but if i have choise i would change to full widith. i strongly admire idea to be possible page widith to be set from account settings

yea i wondered if my contrast was too high, glad you said that. because when i look closely its really faint. even on some other pages as dividers its faint

im using internet explorer. the old one was about right, but the new line is really faint and seems like nothings there when there is
i use ie too :)

the articles page is a list, which people rarely take the time to read through, maybe should be broken up and allow members the chance to add to articles once its been cross examined by members and admins.
i'm not sure what to do with articles. content wise we never produce anything in there, hard to find writers for it. can't just remove it either

old stuff page is emptyish could be left in downloads section
just a place for legacy things to live in .. more stuff will be added there

i dont know if its a bug, but the gpu database has a left hand red line down but cpui database doesnt eidt: its for the red and green team awww, but isnt continuity key :)
good that you figured it out :)

apologise to scrutinise so much i cant help picking flaws in things lol but my own thoughts so i may be dammned for that
i love your feedback. that's why we're opening this up to the public

Some of the font looks pixely. Windows 8, google chrome, 1366/768.

chrome does render custom fonts a bit more pixely, but not that bad. do you have font smoothing turned off ?

This is closer to what I meant. Still doesn't look quite right to me though.

i like the direction you are moving. keep at it, if you have the time.
any ideas where we could put our logo in the new graphs?

Any suggestion for a sans-serif body font, that's (close to) free, easy to read ?

reduced by 2 pixels. better ? (need to reload with f5)

borders of the coments under news itslef are also faint. makes very hard to make difference between posts (or at least for me).

i already made the top border thicker and a bit darker a few days ago due to feedback. will experiment with alternatives. edit: see my next post

no plans to change the font size

suggestions for a color ?

i dont understand, isnt that how it should work ?

i just updated the style to have a thicker, darker border. need to press f5 for it to reload.

take a look and feedback please. personally, i find it a bit too dark and too strong now.

what do you other guys think?

I'm an author, I'll write them.

Look my name up on amazon :D

I also think a tad lighter gray would work better, but it's very dependent on monitor and it's contrast settings.

What I really miss in the news article comment section is the link to the forum thread.

how do you do it currently? there no link to the forum thread in the current design?

can i reccomend some stuff?

I know, I've been missing it from the start :D Sometimes the comments are better formatted on forum thread view and all the smilies and whatnot, I like to look at the thread that way before I post :)

EDIT: My current workflow :) News article -> click on title -> read article -> ctrl + end -> click post your comment -> click forum thread link on top -> read thread  it has to be something about the avatars

I also see on the current site, Discuss link in the news item on the front page leads to forum thread, and on the new site it takes you to the comments section.

now looks better for me but line between news on home page is still faint. again this is with ie8. at home i will try it with opera and ie10.

suggestions for a color ?

any as soon as it makes difference between threads already reviewed and those that arent. current design state is ok for me.

Pros:
.)Faster and less laggy on this old work comp.

Cons:
.)Honestly not feeling the Today's Reviews section, looks too big and distracting from the content I'm trying to get to as I rarely visit those review sites either way.
.)Font looks really jagged and huge.

Edit: Chrome 26

very small changes but it will go well with the new design :p

what i am thinking.

also coloring the stars the same green as next power up wouldnt be a bad idea :D

press f5. i made them lighter grey. not sure if the color could be confused with "nothing new in that thread" ?

I was being picky but here you go

current:

with less space and smaller category font:

barely makes any difference? especially if you just skip over it
