Mining driving up video card prices

I never got into bitcoin because I thought it was a bit shady and was just a passing fad that would be worthless a few years down the line. Boy was I wrong. But it's too late to get into it now, too many people are doing it and it's just harder for the average joe to get anything worthwhile out of it.

It is already a way better to go with higher end cards like GTX 1080 or 1080ti since they prices are not largely affected unlike cards like Rx480 or Gtx 1060. It is a great time to sell if you have those popular cards that is high from mining. This is a good "black market".

It seems like that we are left with going high end or entry mid level like a 1050ti for cards to be worth it price. Older gens nvidia can work great too.

ive seen people ask over $500 for a second hand RX 480s. Crazy. gtx 900 series is where its at for cheap powerful gaming cards.

Strangely I consider GTX 1060 a joke, otherwise i would have bought it one year sooner. I accept nothing less than a GTX 1070 for 250$. Just like GTX 670 costed 400$ at launch and then got replaced by GTX 760 a hair slower at 250$ only year later. Now it is the time for GTX 1070 to step down from 400$ to 250$. So i say let them buy old cards as much as they want. It inflated as it is now anyways.

Yeah, the mining stuff is really annoying for those of us that want to use video cards for actual gaming versus sucking down electricity for what is in my opinion stupid shit.

Does it hurts to see how Gaming cards became Money makers?:p well at least mining is more profitable than Gaming:D Yeap it's stupid shit because you don't mine;) sorry but you will have to live with it.

Mining is the root cause of Global Warming!

Really?
Whatever, mining it's not profitable just for miners, we pay electricity and buy hardware and for sure we spend/pay more than what you do in 5 years.

I want my 1080 ti now . End this mining madness so us gamers can get those cheap cards back and i can get that card i want.

When will this madness end

You mine and you complain?

Well, maybe you should switch your actual mining cards for some more powerful/profitable one so you can buy your 1080ti.

When will this madness end? Let's hope not that soon.

Don't freak out people, when mining won't be profitable anymore there will be a lot of cheap cards for sale, but i doubt those cards will be able to handle any Game after they have been massacred:laugh:

Greed for virtual money.

It's the real money that people are after. If it was just virtual money mining would die instantly.

At any rate, I don't view it as stupid. Gaming is more useless than running a global payment network if you think about it sensibly. Crypto is a good piece of technology that just needs some refining and the market needs to make differentiated products to fix things for gamers. It's not crypto's fault, and crypto isn't bad. It's greed's fault, and greed is bad.

I rather have real cash than toy money.

Toy money become real cash :p

Exactly. Bitcoin and such is best used as reliable money transport, not a currency (at least not yet).

That said, if you were offered 500 dollars, or 500 bitcoins, and took the dollars, oh boy are you some kind of fool...

Some people don't understand that.

I'm making $234.29 daily from mining. I'm not complaining. I am currently making more than in my ebay business. I can easily sell every single rig I have for double the cost I bought them for but I dont see crypto coins going anywhere for some time.

I'm currently mining with 11 GPU's I own and I reckon I would make more money on welfare...

Must be doing something. My 970 cost a measly 500can delivered when I got it a year or so ago. My buddies 1070 cost 830can delivered when they first came out. I remember building whole gaming computers for less.
I don't even want to know the cost of the amd cards up here.....

I am mining and buying/selling amd cards because they are so overpriced.

You can still mine and be on welfare if you like, why report the income when you dont have to.

Was looking at RX560 4GB for 130€. Now they are 154€. This is insane.

GTX 1050 Ti are about the best gaming cards that haven't been hugely effected by cryptocurrencies yet.

Seems like most crypto currency miners are buying at the 4-6 TFLOP range.

I wish a court would rule crypto currencies are not legal tender so it costs 20 million of them to buy a pizza again. This stupidity would stop again.

Was thinking about getting a gtx 1060 to breathe some life into my old desktop but apparently those plans will have to be put on hold considering the prices have increased between 100-130 euros for all graphic cards in my country. Really resenting mining right now.
How are the prices fairing in your part of the world?

Some current prices of MSI cards in my country:

Or that GPU makers intentionally gimp cryptogarbage from being efficiently "mined".

Now ? Yes. Years ago ? Not so much. In the future ? Who knows. That's why it's referred to as toy money / virtual money. Not to mention that that there is a ticking clock on crypto currency , a different kind. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point international/governmental organization step in , as a matter of fact I am almost convinced they will.

Mining is a something of the "here and now" , that being said , you can't take it too serious.

You only need to wait. :)

Not really feasible. Even if they somehow managed to do it, the craze would shift to CPU sales. The best way to put out a fire is take away the fuel. The only reason why anyone bothers is because the currency is worth exceeds the value it costs to get.

An alternative path governments could reduce demand is putting exorbitant taxes on trading it. Example: $100-1000 USD per cryptocurrency transaction in the USA would almost completely stop the trading thereof in the USA. As long as that tax remains in place, there's no profit in doing it. Crypto-currencies would be confined to countries that tolerate it and their respective economies will dictate its value. If all countries tax it to death, it will die off as a currency altogether.

If you ask me, the governments of the world should be shutting this cryptocurrency stuff down because it's so easy to launder money through it. You can hide illicit and illegal transactions much easier since most cryptocurrency transactions are not tracked.
