Parenting is not Valves, Epics or anyone else's responsibility - it's yours.
While that is true, it is the ethical, moral and in many places lawful obligation to keep adult-like content out of the easy reach of children. Anything less is wildly irresponsible.

That system is already in place. There is no need to keep adult content out of reach of adults.

A lacking system that kids can easily lie to get passed.

Not all of us care and some of us would like "adult" games to stay on "adult" sites and not sites accessed by our kids. That is one of the reasons my kids are not allowed on Steam.

I bought "AMID EVIL" yesterday. It was released two days ago. Unfortunately I can't play it as my GFX card is in bits. If your into the old school Hexen/Heretic games, then this is for you.

Had it on my wishlist since last year. Good to see it finally out of EA - excellent shooter, and I think I'm gonna get it on monday-payday :D

So as a kid you NEVER did anything your parents told you not to? You never stayed up past your bedtime, never had porno mags, never smoked cigarettes, never faked being sick to skip school?

A responsible parent accepts that their children will do things they're told not to, and be exposed to things they probably shouldn't be,, and educate them accordingly.

Gotta say I can't even bother to care for this. When did Steam itself - or any store for that matter - become the prime point of entry into gaming/releases info? I never browse there, its an absolute horror show to do so.

Kind of the same approach I have when it comes to 'many launchers' and not tying myself to one storefront... its just not healthy, you're caught in an algorithm and willingly staying in it, you see what the Great Gabe or Sweeney wants you to see. Just like Google (inspiring topic elsewhere)

Yes, no, no and yes. Not all kids are pathetic, self-destructive rebels.

Thanks for the marginalizing advice.

It is not pathetic to be rebellious in those years. The self destructiveness goes along with that, a side effect if you will. It is completely normal, in fact it is part of the maturing process psychologically. Not everyone goes through it but it is far more rare to not be rebellious in your mid to late teens. This is particularly so in environments with loose supervision and those with overly strict conditions.

@Assimilator hit that one outta the park. As a parent of an almost adult(Just graduated but doesn't have a job yet.), I can totally agree. Then again, it isn't my place nor anyone else's to tell you how raise your offspring.

Horror show it may be, but they got the goods. I never thought it'd pick up as it did though. I was one of the early users (unfortunately don't have that original account anymore.. would be kind of neat), but didn't see the promise of digital delivery had back then. I begrudgingly got it only because of Half-Life.. but over time, it became convenient and hard to resist. Soon enough, my game library got pretty large. It'd be a huge waste to pull away now.

Nobody ever said anything about 'pulling away' - neither did I. It may sound strange - or I may misunderstand what you're saying - but it is actually possible to run Bnet, GOG, Steam, EGS, Origin and Uplay all side by side. They won't even run into a single conflict ;)

Oh, I use them all too. I'm just saying I'm pretty well locked in with over half of my game library with Steam. I wish I could, but I can't.

My GOG numbers passed Steam a little over a year ago. I wish the rest of my Steam titles would be released there too!

I had hopes for that migration program they have, but it turned out I have a whopping 3 Steam games that qualify on GOG. lol. So basically, my library there is minimal with mostly Witcher stuff. I'll buy their other first party stuff from there too (Cyberpunk), but it seems I wouldn't even get a fraction of my Steam library migrated.

Well, watch the sales. They have alot of mini weekend sales too which rotate around. You can get many of the games that don’t migrate pretty cheap like that. It may just take awhile and need some patience.

Is that really the way to go though - on a long term level - from a consumer point of view? Buying the same stuff several times just to have the consumer rights/options you prefer?

I'm kinda waiting for regulation on this front. A purchase should not be tied to a store at all. It never is with physical goods either - only for the limited warranty period.

Well in the majority absence of physical goods, it is the only way to truly own your games. Anything that isn’t on Connect that I already have on Steam, or Origin (I’ve emptied half my Origin library), and even some Uplay, I don’t mind buying again (especially on sale).

To own the game and know I can always uninstall and reinstall it forever (because I download and save the game files) is definitely worth it for me. And it’s only twice, not “several” purchases.

Techwise, I'd prefer Microsoft over anyone. I like the ease of UWP/smartphone type of apps. It's just that their offerings are slim too.. so I just stick with first party stuff like I do with GOG, and Steam is my general game library.

Right now my games library consists of:

252 Steam (that will probably go up tomorrow on the Steam Sale)
102 GOG (no DRM and gems from the past :))
10 Origin (because I have to)
2 EGS (because they are the only one's to carry Clementine's Story forward and $5 each was pretty cheap)
2 MicroSoft Store (the worst online store by far imo)

Steam/EGS are private marketplaces. It's not "censorship." They have the right to sell/not sell whatever they wish, and you have the right to buy/not buy from whatever store you wish. Censorship implies coercion.
