while i was at it i came across a full gaming system for roughly the same money.. i bought it.. did i do right.. he he

CCL VR Gaming PC 4.6GHz Intel Hexa Core i5-9600K, 16GB RAM, SSD, WiFi, RTX 3080 price £1750 with three years warranty..

CCL used to build decent rigs, been years since I used to review their hardware though, not even sure if it's the same guys running the company.

As for high graphics card prices can go, I guess that only comes down to how much people are willing to pay...
Seems like there are still RTX 3080's here for under £600.
Edit: Or not, as that card has already been snapped up.

I'll bet those prices can go for a helluva lot higher. Bad times.

I'd never buy it from a dodgy eBay scalper, either. I'll simply stick to my 2080 SUPER until I can buy an upgrade from a proper retailer for a reasonable amount of money.

Just think Trog, you could sell the rest of that PC and make a profit. :p

Got that crypto burning a hole in your pocket eh? hehe. Seems like a good deal to me.

Prices will keep getting worse until people stop buying from scalpers.

If scalping wasn't a sustainable business model, it wouldn't exist.

i hodl all my crypto but monopoly money or not you may be right.. i am guessing the price of the gaming PC was worked out months back long before 3080 prices got to the level they are now at..

it will come in as a spare if nothing else.. :)

As high as you are willing to pay. If you don’t buy prices will come down. If you keep feeding the fire it will continue to burn.

i see people buying from scalpers & its a shame. i called a supplier, & had no issue buying at msrp. just wait it out, you'll end up kicking yourself if you pay 2x msrp

i just don't understand it anymore..

a 3070 costs as much as a 6900XT at the moment. what's even the point of having a 3070 at over 1000€? nobody will buy it (there is stock in a local hardware store that has a bunch of 3070s.. and they sold barely more than 3 cards for these prices)

I thought you already had a 3080.

i do.. now i have two of them one still in its box and one in a complete machine.. i see these things becoming literally unobtainable with really silly prices.. i am still using my 2080ti machine..

having paid £1150 for my 2080ti card i always saw the rrp for the 3080 card as being way too low in the first place.. i think i have been proved right..

The 3080 is still in the box, why not use it by mining on it. Why buy it if its not being used. I know you said you're retired and have extra money but why spend money on something without using it.

maybe i just like buying stuff... i dont have a lot of money but i do have enough to buy (at the right price) the odd thing that takes my fancy.. basically i havnt got around to giving my machine the good dust blow out it needs before installing the new 3080 card.. i aint desperate for it and it aint gonna run away.. :)

HDMI 2.1 tho -- once you get one of them fancy LG 4k OLED s to game on you will see the difference between the 3080 and 2080ti.

Is that because of refresh rate limits or something?

Color compression - HDMI 2.0b vs 2.1 -- the 3080 can drive full 120hz HDR 4k without chroma subsampling, the 2080ti has to drop to 4:2:0 which can look pretty bad and no HDR support.

You can especially tell with text on desktop too.

Interesting; I knew subsampling existed on the display side (learned that researching "TV for PC") but didn't know that adapters had limits in that regard.

what are you guys complaining about, pcgamesn just linked a killer 1080p gaming rig build for 2021 for $600...although I think he forgot to link the MiR for the gpu

Everyone says their "1080p build" is the best. Half the wannabe tech reviewers sit on these lists and hope some 12 year old clicks and goes for mom's credit card.

A lot of the issue comes in when they hit something they can't run. Sure a 3300x is a nice chip but come soon it won't be. Most of those builds don't take into account how long it'll last.

I wanted a 3080 for a long time and could not get my hands on one. Eventually i picked up a 3090 for $1300 off a guy who bought it and decided it was overkill for his needs. He could have jacked the price way up and I would not have bought it, but at $1300 I felt he was being fair considering what everyone else was doing.

I couldn't be happier as this card plays everything I throw at it with no issues @ 4K, even CP2077.

eBay RTX3090 price is slowly rising up to $2500 ~ $2700.

This is just nuts.
