Have a read of this and see what you think.

NVIDIA recently resumed production of its older GTX 1050, GTX 1650, and RTX 2060 series graphics cards to fight gaming graphics card and GPU shortages. It is likely that the GTX 1080 Ti may also be making a return in these desperate times but we have to wait to verify this report before marking it as something that's confirmed.
It's insane to be going backwards. Glad I have my 2080 SUPER to tide me over.

1080 ti is still more than sufficient if you want to play at 1080p, probably you can max out every single game. For 1440p probably you won't go insane with settings but you can still have a good time
Also the 1080 ti has a special place in my heart, it was my first dream when I started building computers

But it's still going backwards technologically, that's the problem. It doesn't matter how good it is. And you can bet it's gonna be priced the same as the equivalent current gen would be - that's two gens newer, which is ridiculous.

I agree that like the 8800 GTX, the GTX 1080 Ti are special cards, but even my 2080 SUPER outperforms it and has the RTX feature among others, so the fact that you can still game on it doesn't mean much. The later gens have to be better, don't they? Well, not unless you're Intel with the latest 11 series CPU, but that's another story...

Well Nvidia is still using TSMC 16nm for their Tegra X1+, now they just gonna use those fab to make 1080Ti again.
Does this mean next gen switch is really gonna use LoveLace uArch on TSMC 5nm?

Yes you're right, I was only thinking about the card and not the market and technological aspect. Now it's time to bet on the price:laugh:.

I'd probably even get one tbh.

11GB, top-end raster efficiency. What's not to like?

But as you correctly pointed out, its going backwards indeed... then again if you don't consider anything Turing onwards as progress, its just an upgrade path ;)

Price will make or break this anyway.

@WatEagle @Vayra86 tell you what, if it was offered at a good price, I'd buy one just to collect it, since it's an iconic card now.

By the way, I've got a brand spanking new, sealed, EVGA NVIDIA 7950 GX2 that I bought for cheap at a firesale a few years ago. Eat your hearts out lads! :p

Performance was much better on XP than W7, too. About double the framerate in some scenarios if I remember correctly.

Dang I had the 7950 GX2 years back, when replacing the TIM I chipped one of the die because I tighten one corner too much, it was a good learning experience :D (cost me 600usd at the time)

1080Ti + 3440x1440 75Hz here.
This resolution for latest games like CP2077, Valhalla, WD Legion may be a bit heavy for 1080Ti, but I don't play those games lol. Those games even make the mighty 3080 looks like a standard GPU, bad optimization perhaps?
Most games with well-optimized engine and performance still can run smoothly on 3440x1440 with max setting. Even some games only use 30-50% GPU.

Even Steve from GN said 1080Ti was a pinnacle from Nvidia's flagship. I have MSI 1080Ti Trio, maybe the last 1080Ti model ever released (Oct 2017), also one of the fastest 1080Ti roughly matches 2080 in some games. I really love this card.

Awesome card, still runs everything at 1080p60 with maximum details without any hiccups. Without a doubt the best card Nvidia has ever made when thinking about how it's aged.

Even if it did come out, it'd probably come out more expensive than it originally sold for. 2021 is so sad that for the price I paid for my RX 480 in 2016 I can now get something that is much.. weaker.

Yep very happy with my used 1080 Ti I got for around $300US Dollars mid way through last year, was a bargin price for such a high end card, even my mate that has a 3070 is disappointed in its performance in some games compared to my old 1080Ti

Hehe if I want to sell my 1660 ti (paid 300€) i could ask for 400-450 easily if I want to align with Ebay prices
Sad thing my ryzen hasn't an igpu
And you're right that's a shame

Totally insane how even 1660 series cards go for 350-450EUR.

If I had bought a 1080 Ti back before this apocalypse, I wouldn't have even considered getting a Turing/Ampere card. But, since my 2070 died, I can't be a chooser.

To be honest, the 1080 Ti was my dream card back in the day. Having a card that outperforms it today is heaven.

imo the 1080 Ti is still very much relevant today in gaming. I'm running a 2070 Super only because I waited too long to get a 1080 Ti and the prices went crazy even before the mining craze. My card is roughly equivalent to a 1080 Ti in performance.

As far as the 1080 Ti being special in a collector's sense I would say the 980 Ti beats it there. jmo

As I said in another 1080 Ti thread, the moment a card no longer runs the games you want it to run, that's when it becomes irrelevant. When it comes to card longevity, 1080 Ti is probably one of, if not the best. Anyone who bought it back in 2017 must be feeling pretty damn vindicated right about now. Back then I only had a GT 610 and 1080 Ti was only a dream. 1060 was all I could get in 2018. 3070 today. Not complaining.

that makes me feel good, im still rocking a plain 1080fe not quite a TI but its stilled my yeaning for a 3070 has dropped by 13.7% when reading this post :) .

1080 (non Ti) is fine too. We've all become so conditioned to think that we have to have the latest and greatest to be happy gaming but that's just marketing influence. So you have to turn down the settings from ultra to high. Can you even tell the difference when moving around and the background is rapidly changing? I can't.

i 100% agree, i feel 25.1% better after seeing your reply buddy. soon i wont feel the need to upgrade at all :)

I wanted to buy a 3080, then I saw the meh VRAM & stuff compared to the 3090. Then I saw the 3080 & 3090 prices, then I waited for a 3080Ti announce. Now I feel good still playing with my 1080Ti.
I guess I can wait for the 4XXX series. :D
If this rumor is true and if they try to sell those *new* 1080Ti cards more than 500€ (tax included) it would be a damn steal.
