"Moderate" is a very relative term here. The Taiwanese industry observer DigiTimes reports that the next highest desktop CPU offering from the silicon giant Intel wouldn't be priced like the current Core 2 Extreme QX9770, QX9775. It could be as much as US $500 cheaper, that's $999 in 1,000 unit tray quantities. Expect the PIB (processor in a box) unit to cost on par with the current Core 2 Extreme QX9650. The highest offering from what we know, is a 3.20 GHz Bloomfield core based processor with in the LGA 1366 package.

In addition to this 3.20 GHz Extreme CPU, Intel will also introduce a performance version clocked at 2.93 GHz and quoted at US$562, and a mainstream version running at 2.66GHz and carrying a price tag of US$284. All three models will run on X58 chipset motherboards with the new LGA 1366 socket.

thanks for the bit :)

So Nehalem won't be priced through the roof... sweet. I was expecting the 2.6GHz part to be in the neighborhood of $500 and the 2.9GHz part to be around $800.

The moderate prices are merely Intel's tool to encourage migration to their new sockets. :)

And rather solid encouragement it is. If they do that, I may be able to go top end again at tax time.

As long as they dont make up for it with expensive chipsets for manufacturers. Cus this new socket is going to involve new mobos for everyone upgrading to it.

Nehalem 2.66ghz next, thank you very much. Will do just fine for me.

that was my first thought.also IMO Intel wants to place AMD in a more disadvantage place living no place for them in the market.we are seeing another M$oft IMO

Any guesses on this thing's (3.20 GHz Bloomfield) FSB multiplier? :twitch:

So can we conclude LGA1366 is going to be the mainstream socket? I'd really like to do a Nehalem build only to grab up one of the early boards for both crossfire+sli capabilities. Just curious .....

It's still a thousand dollars.

People flip out when their video card cost 500 instead of 199, but when they sell a CPU at 1000.00USD no one says anything.

either that^^^ or they want to keep AMD 'pinned down' through further aggressive marketing.

as simple as saying "Hey folks, want to own a top of the ranger hippity hoppety new kick ass CPU at Mice's Prices??"

go Figure

way to point that one out ;)

people will ocmplain about what they are told to complain about

Intel actually provides us with power whereas microshaft profides slushware

i don't know what intel think when it release extreme , it very good cpu right but they kill the xeon , the extreme now better than xeon , and it is too much for normal users

FINALLY! I hope these quads shine the next generation of CPU as today's quads are getting their asses kicked by the E8000 dual-core series.

i made a comparison of the monopolistic behavior that Intel is showing by trying to leave no place in the market for AMD.is my statement clear enough for you now?

I love my Extreme:)

I can completely do up to a grand for a CPU (considering how much I've spent on GPUs :D) But anything over that is just sick. All the better for it to be the best.

Yeah, you would. You rich son-of-a-bitch.

Far Far from rich, I make less than 20k a year ATM. I do make extra doing things around town that off sets the balance for me.

Good thing I live in Oklahoma were you don't have to make tons of money to live a decent life.

im 17 and i can get any AMD chip i want :toast: you just have to know were to get what you want

There are plenty of ways to get high-end gear w/o paying ridiculous prices for it. Even if I didn't have my connection I still have my family.
Intel's cruddy program is what a helluva lot of ppl are taking adv of...& I do have a sister that's a Walmart manager :p
Too bad I have no need for another QX6850.

Its still ridiculous. It used to piss me off when AMDs FX 5X and 6X procs were 999/1000 units. Intel was always ridiculously high. $1000 for a cpu is still too much money. $500 tops is all it should be.

I cant wait to see AMD's response to this. They haven't said anything about their prices yet.
