The 4800 series Driver, OCing, Cooling and Tweaking Thread

Sorry, but I'm running 860/1125 on 8.7 beta under Vista 64. No problem with the drivers and it's by bios flash not AMD GPU Tool. Please don't spread disinformation.

Some hardware configurations have problems with 8.7 beta's. Where is this disinformation you are talking about?

It's better to wait for the official release of Cat 8.7. From what I read there are some updated profile(s). In particular Race Driver: Grid.

I didn't say it happens to everyone, if it doesn't happen for you...good for you.

I'm sorry then. Misunderstood you, I just don't like generalizations.

can some of you guys test something for me.

i was playing grid earlier and on the opening level of the single player game you go up the big hill and then back down it again, well just after that corner the monitor loses signal. tested this twice with it happening at the same point.

playing the single races (race day) work fine for what i tried.

crysis also did it too in the demo, and i think i worked it out to be AA, i had edge detect enabled for crysis and it lost signal but normal AA works fine.

not too sure i had it enabled for grid tho :/

any of you guys get this?

EDIT: actually setting AA in the CCC never worked on GRID and AA only works ingame :/

I had the exact same thing happen to me, came back to my overclock, even thou it is artifact free for hours. Try lowering the clocks, and see if that helps.

not overclocked except for cpu and thats stable and these games ran perfect before this card.

just tested some more edge detect AA on cs:s and it does it with that too so i'd say its a driver issue.

using the hotfix ones btw

I am also having prob with 8.7 beta which if i overclock pass 700mhz, i cant boot into vista. So, Urbklr arent giving false information. I am also having problem with GRID currently where i stuck at Le Mans tracks with repeated looping sound and blank screen.

IQ Review of AA

Review in IQ between 4870/2600 found here.

The conclusion was simple:
-MSAA looked similar. There was an example showing MSAA better on 4870.
-12x CFAA is better then Nvidia's 16x CSAA when viewed up close.
-Adaptive AA looks better than Nvidia's Transparant SSAA when viewed up close.

Sidenote:
Adaptive AA will work in DX10 mode in a future driver release
If a developer writes their own custom AA filter in DX10 then Adaptive AA will not be applied

So how are these new drivers ? has anyone installed and run some games or tests ?...Thanks..Steve

Everything runs the same for me but they are more stable and have alot of bug fixes so I would get them :)

Hmmm, I get the same performance, but things seem smoother:wtf:. It may not have higher performance, but it should be stable, and gives you a nice WoW trial;)

Like anyone is gonna click that, either you already own the game, and love it....Or you don't, and wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

So anyone play ET quake wars and have dissapearing and re apearing graphics with CF 4850,s ? I have not read anywhere of anyone els getting this...Steve

I'm quite disappointed with these drives. I'm still getting dodgy shadows in Crysis:

3dmark vantage still stutters really badly (and I lose 150 points).

I just hope there's noticable improvements elsewhere

The shadows in crysis are incredibly buggy.. Thats not the drivers lol

Can anyone still set their fan speed beyond 23%? If so which brand video card?

Nevermind, I forgot to unlock the overclocker before setting my fan speed. :slap: .

Were any options in CCC enabled?

Nope, I just set mipmap to highest while gaming and lowest for benching :p Everything else is set to "let 3d app decide" and AI is off.
