there all about the same performance wise. So pick the cheaper one. What are your specs? Do you have a preference of ATI or Nvidia? Also what do you do with the rig?

None of them tbh, if you can fork over a little extra a 5770/4870 or GTX260. Although if I had to choose, i will be frank, the 4770.

i would say any of them. But i would get the 4770 because it runs cooler and uses less electric. In-turn makes your bill cheaper and is easier on the PSU

What is the max resolution of your display?

1280 x1024 and i play all games in this resolution.

Of those 3 I like the GTS 250 best (but use the single 6 pin shorter model not the 9800GTX+ one thats longer and has 2 6 pin plugs), At ur res it will play nicely. But so will the 4850. I had the 4770s and while they were fine they were no match for the 250 (I used 1920 X 1200 res)

By the way please list the specs of your comp as it has a lot to do with picking a proper GPU.

What power supply are you using? Does it have more than one PCI-E power connector?

I'd go with the 4850 if u can swing it or the 4770 both are good cards at that resolution.

i agree i would go with the 250 also. Its really not all bad of a card but it is starting to age. I game at the same res as the OP on my 8800GT and it played most things fine but did lag alittle at times. But i added the 2nd 8800GT(SLI'ed) and that went away... To the OP overclock that CPU if you haven't already and pickup a 250gts and enjoy

I myself own a X2 4200+(being replaced by a Athlon II X2) and it clocked wonderful. I got it 3.1ghz stable at 1.36v... Could you tell us if yours is a 65nm or 90nm.. Also what stepping is it
if its 65nm its G1 or G2 if its 90nm its F2 or F3

True, the cpu would otherwise bottleneck those cards way too hard. A 9600GT would be perfect in your system. Unless of course you are planning to upgrade your pc in the near future and keeping your vid card. Then either buy a 5770/5850 or wait for a real Fermi that fits your system. If you really want to buy one of those three cards you mentioned, I'd opt for a gts250 if you want to fold/have physics else I'd go for the 4770. Less power means less heat and probably less noise for the same performance level.

I would say the NV 250 if power is not an issue as you can enjoy free PhysX if you are into playing those titles.

Otherwise 4770 can play all the games at full bling bling at 1280 * 1024 with ease (except that CPU might be a bottleneck). If bios and money permits pick up a cheap Athlon II X2 240 and OC to 3.5 and enjoy all the games with no lag.

you can go for the power saving edition of the GTS250 serie and pick the cheapest one of them with 1gb memory 'cause i experices that even my 8800GT 512mb can run out of memory in some games at 1680x1050 and it's not any better i use a 32inch LCD TV 1080p as my computer screen at the moment either...

I ran a comp with 2 9600GTs in SLI and an OCd 6400+ (3.7ghz) for a long time with a 400 watt Power supply.
The prob is it has to be a "GOOD" 400 watt. Do you have a link to your Power supply?

p_o_s_pc that's really depends on what resolution and quality you game in, just game GTAIV or other new games they use more than 300mb and mostly for highest quality over 512mb.

Why not look at a 5770, I know in New Zealand the price is almost on par with the 4850, and you will be getting DX11 with the 5770
