The difference between the two is so damned small, the cheaper one is the winner. Hard to call a clear cut win.

Unfortunately, 4870X2 has beaten the GTX295 (only Crysis Warhead lol) but they used different settings, even at 1920 x 1200. 1892MB (GTX295) is fairly enough for that res but still falls behind. http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTYwOCwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== Dunno if this is already posted, if it is mod's are free to close.

It's a proven fact that [H] also FUDGES a lot of data and benchmarks. It's also proven that the 4870X2 DOES beat out the GTX295, but ONLY at 2560x1600...and who the hell plays at that res?

Not according to the latest drivers as seen in the charts at tom's hardware.

Before making a judgement look at the latest driver results.

Inexperienced PC users simply look at the review done at launch. Which is often with buggy drivers that resemble Alpha drivers because they have many known issues that will be resolved in the following drivers released in the month following the initial launch.

With the latest drivers it does scale very well. I should know. Also remember if you are an ATi only kinda guy, if you are looking to call the GTX 295 card not the best card you will be grasping at staws to justify what you want to believe. You have to ask yourself if the flagship is worth the money its asking for at places like Newegg etc.

If you wanted to actually point out a weakness in the GTX 295 design it would be the fact that GTX 295 quad SLi is not fully functioning yet. It will be scaling great in a month or less but right now it has issues.

What is wrong with that? Just because ATI's dual gpu solutions out do their crossfire solutions doesn't mean that nvidia's dual-gpu solution will out do it's SLI setups. I believe that ATI's crossfire and multi-gpu solutions have always scaled better than nvidia's at least lately.

im wondering if amd is going to enable the sideport of the 4870 x2 on their next driver release. maybe the 4870x2 can beat gtx295 with that.

AMD's graphics division is like their CPU.. They have the best for the money, but not THE best. 430$ 4870X2 vs 500$ 295.. If you want to spend the extra 70$ for a 295 because you have the money.. Go for it. But the 4870X2 seems like a better deal for 430$ to be honest. Plus, Nvidia's dual GPU cards don't last very long before they go EOL..

I do like how everyone acts like Nvidia doesn't do the same thing tho. They do this stuff all the time.. It's just to get OEM partners to use their cards and graphs so they can say, "Add 400$ for an HD 4870X2, fastest video card for Crysis!". And I do not like [H]'s reviews. I just ignore them honestly..

I didn't wanna start a new thread but this is sort of related anyway. Is it worth it to upgrade to any of these two from my 4850 Xfire setup? Or should I just wait til' later since the only game that demands such power atm is crysis.

Refer to my current resolution which is 1680x1050.

I can run all games at max, even crysis at very playable frames. The only problem is DX10 and its Multiplayer is not really meant for play in 40+ fps... 60+fps in low settings for mp like every other pro does even with high end solutions in their rig.

Would I be just buying one of these cards for the sake of it despite the fact I will get more frames over 60(not visible to a human eye)....?

Hmmm I really can't wait for ATi's GPU solution comeback after 295 released! Woooo, you guys can consider me as an ATI fan, but really the only reason I buy ATI cards because they offer lower prices.

their response is going to be throwing 2 4870GPUs on one card, and like the GTX295 and 9800GX2, have card opposite of it mirror it. It will be called the 4870x2x2. With this and CFX, you could then go 2x4870x2x2 for a 3% increase in performance over a single 4870x2

Will it ever end!!! Really the 295 and the 4870x2 are both awesome cards, both top of the line. Even if the 4870x2 wins at the highest res..who cares? The 295 just hit the market give it some time for newer drivers. The difference between the two is very small IMO. This is coming from an AMD/ATI guy both cards are awesome in my book. It seems like everyday there is a new thread about this 295 beats 4870x2 and vice versa in the long run it comes down to what you really need the card for..4870x2 beats the 295 at max res on crysis warhead whoopp de dooo!

You have a gtx295.
Op has a 4870x2.

No bias there :)

I have come from 2x4870 in CF, so trust me, i know what im talking about.

i buy from both camps specifically to try the best that's out there, and to make objective opinions on the matter. ( which at the moment is a bevvy of RV770 and GT200 choices )

my objective opinion this time round, finds that on my monitor (1920x1200) the GTX 295 beats out the crossfired 48's in every gaming/benching scenario.

however i find it hilarious they pick on the memory limitation of this card @ 2560x1600 + 8XAA when we all know for that res, the X2 has a physical advantage, not to mention ATi's 8xAA is great atm. both companies do this, release cheery picked results for the consumers to see, again, why i buy both.

i buy, tweak, get bored, sell to mates, upgrade, cycle continues. that way each card costs me less, and my mates get a good deal too, in the last 6 months ive parted with 2 watercooled 4870's and a bios modded GTX260 @ 280 for mates rates.

literally mate, no bias here.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.

Sorry didnt realize they used the betas as the latest drivers in that review, but I still feel that they have a ways to go, as the GT200 series are consistently getting faster with new driver releases.

to whoever said the 260 SLI will always beat the 295 - this is not true, not at matching clockspeeds anyways. Simply because the 295 has more shaders - and also because with the latest drivers it consistently beats the 216 already.

their response is going to be throwing 2 4870GPUs on one card, and like the GTX295 and 9800GX2, have card opposite of it mirror it. It will be called the 4870x2x2. With this and CFX, you could then go 2x4870x2x2 for a 3% increase in performance over a single 4870x2

Anyone know if you could quadfire 4x 4870x2's lmao, 8 4870's in one rig sounds crazy, youd gotta have a salary of Bill Gates to waste that amount of money which I think someone mentioned like a grand per second?

Anyway thanks? Lol
