Presenting the fastest IGP to date. The upcoming AMD 790GX chipset, unlike preliminary reports suggesting it was going to be an extreme performance competitor to the GeForce 8200 IGP incorporated NForce 780a, is a high-end chipset armed to compete with the likes of NForce 750a, Intel G35. It supports ATI Crossfire multi-GPU technology.

In two new company slides published by the Chilean website CHW.net, early performance evaluations of the 790GX IGP were conducted, where the AMD chip beat the GeForce 8200 IGP by a very significant margin. It outperformed the Intel G35 by nearly 300 per cent margins in some tests. Apart from this ferocious little IGP, the 790GX supports ATI Crossfire with the energy-saving Hybrid-Crossfire feature. When not gaming, the display is handled by the IGP, depending on the load, the graphics card(s) are powered and speeds are adjusted. So when playing a game that the graphics card(s) can churn out 300 fps from, the GPU parameters can be lowered so you still get say, 100 fps while the GPU power is reduced significantly. With increase in load, the parameters are stepped up accordingly. Boards based on this chipset will also include the brand new SB750 southbridge, which supports six SATA II ports with RAID 5 support and enhanced overclocking.

With AMD claiming the IGP of 790GX to be up to 33% faster than the already fast 780G, you have abundant power for smooth playback of 1080p HD video and casual gaming. You can add a Crossfire X supportive Radeon card and step-up performance or take it to extreme levels with another of the same card in the second slot. AMD already has a formidable line-up of graphics cards to choose from, with more in the pipeline.

With inputs from CHW.net

Maybe if AMD got some good chips out I would switch over to that platform! It has alot of things I like there just arent any AMD chips that come close to my E7200 :ohwell:

Once again it depends on the game. Few Games AMD does well. Ofcourse at ur clock nothing can come close. Good clock there. They go more right. why not push it?

Yeah. thats all good and well. but, half this news post is just hybrid xfire info. :p
Im glad that where approaching a time where intergrated gfx isnt considerd the absolute slowest solution you can choose, what i would like to know is...
Are these going to be more common for matx mobo solutions, ie, htpc's? will they handle spewing out large amounts of high definition data to a hdtv? say... 1080p @ 80fps frm a blueray iso... or will they be available on matx and full atx mobos, and so on?
How long will it take untill it saturates the market, and what would be a good price point to buy one for :p

All those questions aside, this chipset would run a 4870 like crazy huh :D

Both M-ATX and ATX. There are some M-ATX with Crossfire boards in the making too.

would be wicked but SATA placement look's rather out of place, they're the yellow connector's between the pci-e slot's?

No, they're the slots underneath the southbridge.
Looks like a very nice motherboard! I just wish more manufacturers would use BTX, its a great design and makes more sense than ATX, which was designed for PCI and ISA...

No, those are the USB headers. There are 6 SATA ports (black) below the SB.

that top board does look like it'd make one crazy lanning case :D
i like where the sata is placed, only thing thatd make me like that mobo even more is if it had solid caps on it, hell, thatd make one great mediacenter front end, with 2x pci-e it would handle 1080p HD no worries.
i want one now, lol, & a phenom b3< stepping

Think I may have to switch to back to AMD after seeing these boards and make them my next build. Very nice IMO.

@Shadowfold
Unsure about you but those Phenom X4's are pretty good for the price.
