AMD GPU 6000 series owner should avoid the latest driver from december 22

Just would like to chime in on this as well. Every time I attempt to install 22.11 on my 6800 it bluescreens halfway through the driver install process and breaks the whole thing leaving tons of error messages from amd software trying to start up. I've attempted to clean up and reinstall 22.11 4 times now and it results in the same error every time.

With DDU?

With DDU?
the first two times it was a fresh install of windows 11. Honestly thought I was having issues with XMP profiles. The second two times, yes I rebooted into safe mode and used DDU. Finally gave in and installed the older driver and it worked without issue.

The problem is purportedly with the December driver, not the November one that failed to install on your system. You should start a separate thread if you need troubleshooting help, otherwise this is off topic and not related to the issue described in the OP.

Feels like AMD just decided not to release new driver for 6000 series i wonder if this has anything to do with it

I don't know. I've had my 6750 XT for about 2-3 months now, and no issues so far. Though the video also said it's about 6800 and 6900 cards only, so I don't know. I'm on 22.11.2 by the way.
I'm still on 22.8.2, which was the latest at the time on my most recent Windows 11 clean installation, which was September 20, 2022.

22.8.2 (8/19/2022) has been working very well for me. I got 11 22H2 cleanly installed on the same date that 11 22H2 was released.

Normally, this would smell like sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth time. I never had problems like that with recent AMD driver installations.

Not being a gamer I've discovered that the latest Pro Q4 drivers work best with my RX 6800 XT and RX 6900 XT GPU's in Win 11 Pro. HDR10 won't enable with most of the non-Pro drivers I've tried.

What happens when you try to enable with with most of the "non-Pro" drivers?

For a GPU core to crack open like that... how much current do you need to jolt it with? Seems insane to me. Has anyone heard of reports of this occurring outside of this batch of cards from that one specific shop?

The HDR option is grayed out in Windows.
Problem confirmed with 22.8.2, Windows 11 22H2 will insist that HDR isn't even supported! Will games ban me from playing with Pro drivers? (not let me play)

Personally I've never heard of this happening before but I deeply suspect the real reason is because the RGB was overloaded on the card and everyone knows RGB makes everything cooler unless you over do it.

AMD staying silent right now does not help, all we can do is speculate which can potentially further damage AMD reputation.
If been having driver issues for 6 months my card is watercooled.
My card ignores frequency limits already confirmed firing up doom eternal on stock max clocks 2555 mhz
Firing up on custom default tuning preset says 2479 mhz leaving un changed applying also boost 2555 mhz.
If i lower tuning preset by 1 mhz lets say 2478 mhz and fire up doom eternal it boost to 2468 mhz so only default frequency limit is broken.
Imagine thermal limits also being broken.
AMD making gpu's cook it self to death ?
AMD launching new gpu with hotspot issues ?
Random user reporting display port cable makes ssd not be detected but changing it magically fixes hotspot issue and ssd re appears ?
20th pin issues ?
I have a club 3D display port 1.4 HBR3 cable btw if i am correct this is one of the better cables.
Wish my gpu just died randomly but it can run heaven for 24 hours just fine and superposition and port royal each for 8 hours.

Am i to offtopic ? if so sorry mods but i just want to rant right now im suffering driver issues even today, things are more stable on 22.11.2 already mailed this YouTuber as well if been on 22.5.1 least for 4 months.
Im not trusting AMD one bit, anything that comes at them is their own fault for lack of communication, and leaving everything to users them self to fix.

Also Nvidia has had drivers kill gpu's before in past as well i believe it with with gtx 480 and 1 pulled driver with gtx 1080.
Detonator drivers killed gpus, this here looks like liquid metal...

Actually they work fine so use them

6800 non-xt using 22.11.2 having no problems and hdr working fine

I use RX 6900 XT and don't even see a (actual) December driver that comes up as an option. In fact AMD Radeon Software suggests the latest my GPU could use is 22.11.2 which was released (or maybe technically "built") on Dec 8th......makes total sense......released in December with a November name scheme using 11 as the 2nd digit. I suppose it was a beta to WHQL version or else I wouldn't know why they would name stuff like that.

This also aligns with how things are laid out on their website

I don't update unless I need to or have a legit want like a bug is fixed. I'm still on 22.11.1 for this reason

but if you wanna be "that guy" and download drivers not meant for your GPU, or better yet, specific to another GPU. but with all that said.....I thought drivers do a hardware check at start of installation to even see if you have hardware installed that supports them? if nothing found, install terminates.....I don't get the hub bub around any of this.

I guess it took MS about a week or so to give it the ok, or\and that and more testing.

Yes i bet and i still think their whole 7 series was a rush job.

Probably frequency limits voltage limits etc being broken, i already know the first one is broken cos i can easily proof it, voltage limit no idea how you would even test or proof that not gonna be guinee pig and kill my gpu for science im just a 38 year old autistic man with a benefit barely any money to replace dying hardware which why i am so salty about these driver issues, if i had the money i probably start a serious driver review channel, then watch Nvidia fanboys come in and say that Nvidia drivers are better take some screenshots, and then expose all the Nvidia driver problems if had for years that are still not fixed and make fun of that.
Nvidia has killed gtx 480 in past before with drivers so if they can AMD can as well, i suspect all limits are ignored cos if you do a stress test on 22.5.1 it hits lower frequency limits while on newer drivers it ignores limits and runs on 2524 mhz but uses less power somehow, it does similar behaviour when doing occt memtest gpu core will randomly spike to 2550 mhz while memory clocks go up and down altho if not checked if behaviour is the same on older drivers.

AMD just skipped old gen cards again in new drivers so i suspect they are investigating first and then releasing new driver even tho this might be bad idea as they may need to release a hotfix asap, altho i suspect 7900 series may suffer same issue.

The test is if you enable 10-bit support in Adrenalin and then reboot when asked to. For me, at least with 22.8.2, Windows insists HDR not even supported until I disable AMD's 10-bit option.

HDR does not work with 10 bit pixel format HDR it self is 16 bit pixel format so you bassicly downgrading pixel format by enabling that, its not needed for 10 bit color depth.

That's what I thought regarding the die... liquid metal...

On my side, I do run 22.11.2 since release date (december 30th), and they works just fine on my RX6800XT... I run 1900mhz min, 2398mhz max, 1150mv, +15% power limit, and it works perfectly without any issue. GPU it always under 75C. The card is gaming for over 2 years and alot of hours of gaming. no issue. I'm not sure it's the 22.11.2 driver the issue...

This may have already been asked, but does this affect reference cards only or is it AIB's too? I'm on the 22.11.2 driver and have the Sapphire RX6900XT Toxic Air. No issues at all.

Idk the die cracks look suspicious like liquid metal had been used on the die

The temps of my RX 6750 XT, have been very good with 22.8.2. Handles 220-230W with no problem.

I seriously doubt that, it's almost impossible to kill a card simply through software not at the vBIOS level.

Also you don't need galaxy sized brain power to realize that if you receive broken cards in January, most of those cards are going to run on drivers from December, duh, so that doesn't mean anything in particular.
you sure? do a search for nvidia cards melting after a driver update..............probably about 8-10 years ago??

Co-incidentally, I messaged OCUK about re-pasting my card to see if that would void the warranty only 2 days ago. Might be a sign to leave it alone...

Don't re-paste it if it's a high-tier Sapphire! I have superb temps out-of-the-box, even with it boosting to 2.7 GHz!
