B580 tanks performance with low end CPUs

Why not? People do software updates all the time to enhance and/or fix problems. Updating to a more refined UEFI is no be deal.

To people such as us, perhaps. We know our way around a computer... not so much of a reasonable request to the average customer, which is the largest majority of the buyers anyway.

Anyone rocking an x79 or x99 system in 2025 - they either need to do the work themselves or use Myconst hardware's tool & add it it.

At some point, you have to recognize old tech for what it is.

Don't disagree, but at the same time you need to understand that if you're trying to claw market share, you need to provide a good and relatively seamless experience

Still waiting on 8-11th gen core i testing.

From what I have experienced & seen reported from others that have Intel cards - anything over the past 5 years is turning on above 4g & resizable bar in the bios or doing a bios update & then turning on above 4g & resizeable bar.

For stuff before then, a little elbow grease is required.

Good news is that the x99 community is stepping up to provide that elbow grease.

None of that matters for users that don't use SecureBoot, which many people do not use. Maybe some boards get around this and it might be different for modded X99 BIOS', but my X299 board can not enable ReBAR unless SecureBoot is also enabled.

I generally ignore you trolling the intel subforums; but I do wonder where you get this stuff. Assuming its true, and lets do just that; assume. You know they do that already right? Even now we are in a merge window currently where 2 sets of drivers are being released as one package. This will be for several cycles before finally merge them into once package. Anyone can look into Intels driver release history on TPU and see it, and I would certainly know since I have to touch like all of them since forever;

Not saying its not difficult, but it certainly isnt as doom and gloom as you make it out to be, they literally do this every time a product is released. They did it for:

Iris XE & Alchemist
Alchemist & Meteor Lake
Alchemist & Lunar Lake

We are now on

Alchemist & Battlemage

So 4th cycle, each one has had multiple tandem driver releases before the eventual merge.

EDIT: Anyway, I was thinking about this and while it certainly does suck, it almost feels like they are blowing it out of proportion. I am not aware of Intel supporting rebar except very slect combos prior to 12th gen, and prior to AMD 5xxx series. Intel said from the beginning that they need REBAR on for the cards to perform as they intended; showing "bad" results on platforms that dont support it seems disingenuous; Thats like saying "GUYS the cards dont run well without rebar enabled; ALSO GUYS they dont perform well on platforms without rebar!" like; no shit?

Just wanted to reach out the drivers have been merged now.

So I suppose 12600KF would be a good enough pairing for this as it's not that much slower than 13600K. How much is it in the U.S. these days? If around $150 then definitely fits the "budget build" imo.
yeah and they are pretty easy to clock to 5-5.2, would be a perfect combo imo.

Hey, seems like nobody is talking about this "little" problem? o_O Arc B580 Overhead Issue, Ryzen 5 3600, 5600, R7 5700X3D & R5 7600: CPU-Limited Testing - YouTube

apparently the otherwise good B580 has a big problem with "non ultrafast CPUs" (I mean, I wouldn't call the 7600 slow necessarily)

at first it seemed like it was a BAR problem with old cpus, turns out it's a problem with ALL cpus below a certain speed...

this put seriously into question the viability of the whole battlemage architecture...

waddaya think?
So here b580 start to pop now 340usd
Price and comparative it's good price.
But whole marker is so ridiculous overpriced that I just sold my pc and will read books instead.
I am sure they will find willing costumers.
For tech crap vr google and merging in fake worlds, I am out. Read tech news just because I always fallow that. Will reduce that too.

AMD is known to have less driver overhead than Nvidia. And Intel is worst than that.
7600xt 16gb or if you can afford 7700xt will be much better. Hopefully after release 9series from AMD ther will be good 12 GB option after prices drop I suspect September to be the time to buy new if ever.

You don't have to sell your PC. You could just keep playing old games forever. :)

My backlog is miles long. Even if I never bought any new PC part ever, I still couldn't finish everything in my Steam library within the rest of my life.

Other than that, I agree.

I play a bunch of games from around 2019 or so and as CPU-dependency hadn't reached the levels it's at now, CPU-limiting hasn't been an issue for me and my Arc B580 has seen good performance. Except.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a funny bird. Here's my observations so far at 1440p with optimized visual settings (~High w/ some recommended changes) and of course ReBAR on:

5700X3D on B450, 32GB DDR4 3200, PCIe 3.0 x16: stuttering in NPC-heavy game locations like Meridian. Both in the game benchmark (takes place in Meridian only and is relatively GPU-light + CPU-heavy) and in-game. It's mostly smooth to be fair, but not completely and that's bad on this good of a CPU.

7840HS in MiniPC @65W, 32GB DDR5 5600, PCIe 4.0 x4 (Oculink): No stuttering. However watching Afterburner monitoring everything, the CPU is hammered the whole time, sitting at ~5GHz and 65W using 75% CPU at 75C. NO OTHER game does even close to this under any conditions. GPU use rarely reaches above 75% but can in some circumstances with noticeably higher FPS. Complete CPU bottleneck, but gameplay is smooth. I'm using a newer driver in this system so I need to retest the 5700X3D (and 5800X3D just because).

And it's not CPU clock speed. I almost always run the 7480HS with Turbo off at 3.8GHz because it's mega-overkill at 5.0GHz and did most of the rest of playtesting at 3.8GHz. FPS went down 10-15% but is able to reach 80FPS (my usual target for this game and most single player titles) in some CPU conditions but not others. CPU running at ~25W (big savings, runs cooler, fan barely audible, this is why I run this way) and still smooth, just lower FPS. In-game (outside of Meridian) dips into the high 50s on occasion but most of the time at 70-80 with no noticeable frame pacing problems like seen previously with the 5700X3D. Meridian is also smooth but can dip a bit lower in FPS. Again the GPU is just loafing along averaging 75% load even when below 80FPS (the CPU-limit again).

What does this mean? Well, the B580 has an occasional CPU-limitation problem which is obvious and exagerrated in Horizon Zero Dawn. Frame pacing problems may be mitigated with higher memory bandwidth (5600 vs 3200) or that could just be from a newer driver, I'll test. It's not from CPU-limiting as the 5700X3D should be more powerful than (or at least similar to) a 7840HS @3.8GHz.

And PCIe bandwidth doesn't seem to be a concern in this title as it's working better at 4.0x4 compared to 3.0x16's double bandwidth. I wasn't expecting much worse here but better was a surprise.

Last note: I tried to enable ReBAR on my Asus B365 and failed, the MoBo doesn't like the modified BIOS. I also have an almost identical Asus B360 so that'll likely also fail and looking in the successful MoBos list for modified addition of ReBAR, there's only a single Asus entry. Doesn't bode well which sucks as I really wanted to try this B580 on my Core i5-8400 and i7-9700F. Seems that's not to be.

Yet.

65w is pretty wild for mobile zen. My 6900hs is @ 15 to 20w for games. I need to try zero dawn o_O

This is exclusively because of the B580 and its drivers. I don't see this crazy CPU use in HZD with other GPUs in the same system.

I’m just so done with all of it—the software, the hardware, the fake 'experience' marketing, the gambling mechanics, loot boxes, endless hype, manufactured drama, toxicity, addiction traps, and the depression it all fuels. Enough. This fool is out.

- You know, you could just patient game and deal hunt/build used/play older curated games like I do and avoid everything you're talking about while also enjoying a couple hours of gaming a week.

I appreciate the engagement bait however, tis fun.

Have you heard of GOG? If you're tired of the BS you mentioned but you still love gaming, GOG is your ticket and garden of Eden.

You could just play offline, you know.

No one is asking you to take part in the drama, or to believe the bs experience marketing.

But is just so much easier to cut off rotten limb.
Luckily, we humans have more than one. And using your analogy, the suggestions made are offering you insight into the use of other "limbs". Seriously, GOG. Check them out if you haven't yet. Lot's of great, frustration free, goodness there!

Already did. It’s all poisoned well by now for me. Just lost love to games. There is no coming back. (did Gog, switch, retro everything, music just stopped)

What`s all this got to do with the Intel B580?
Does anyone know if the recent driver updates have helped any in regard to this issue, I haven`t seem many complaints recently from people with Battlemage cards so i`m not sure...

You say it's a rotten limb. I say it's a mosquito bite. But fine, have it your way, I don't intend to argue.

Not sure to be honest. It's being worked on. Solaris17 mentioned it on the first page of this thread and that was in January.
