maybe better multithreaded performance?

and at the same time, it may piss of M$ as Dice would implement its low level API on the game heh

What is it that windows 8 has that 7 does not besides DX11.1 that can be attributed to the performance difference?

Good question but that is apparently the main thing as far as I have seen mentioned. Though that is only saying so much. It might not be so dramatic in the final game esp after some patching and, as people love to say, optimization.

In other news, after very limited, unscientific testing it seems that there is not a whole lot of FPS diff between 2x and 4x MSAA on my system (like 2-4 max) unlike BF3 whereas there is still a pretty distinct visual improvement on thinner lines and distance views (like BF3). Hope that is really the case and continues tho eff it I am getting a new mobo and another 7950 in a month or two.

maybe better multithreaded performance?

Yeah maybe. MS coulda used this beta a year ago. BF4 gamers are a relatively small subset I guess but things like this are how you start to really change perceptions and get more people to actually try the damn thing. And word gets around...

MS Suit 1: OMG! There have been 350,000 downloads of Windows 8 Preview just this week!
MS Suit 2: That's fantastic! Last week there were only 40! Did our marketing finally start to get through?
MS Suit 1: No! The BF4 beta runs way better on it! Champagne?

The problem I see is even in win7 in that graph I am not seeing that high of min FPS .

They don't say how many players were on server but my fps are like 20-130 with avg around 70-80's with mostly high settings .

An upgrade to Win 8.1 would be a lot easier to swallow if they would cut the price for OEM disk. I don't want to shell out $140 bucks for Pro to play one game better when I'm not that enthusiastic about the product to begin with.

Maybe MS could partner with AMD for a "Kinda Sorta Settle Bundle" that included 8.1...lol.

Haha. Yeah I can't argue with that. I am hoping I can score a volume licensed copy from work like I have every other OS I've run (except for 7 which I pre-ordered $50 upgrade).

I bought my copy for $15 when they were dirt cheap after initial release. I didn't use it until just over a month ago, but I shouldn't have waited as it's probably the best OS I've used.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Here is the thing about this test... look at the low, low resolution its on. Now, there may be some differences, but running it that low only magnifies any differences. I would like to see this run at a more common res like 1920x1080/1200 or 2560x1440 and see if the the differences are that pronounced. ;)

It does have Aero, just does not have the fake glass looking theme. It has everything Aero but 2 features, glass and Flip 3D

Has anyone seen a full list of guns, scopes, and attachments yet? For instance, will a PDW with a suppressor, 2x scope, and ero grip be possible?

Yeah, on Youtube posted by LvlCap for each kit. Included all weapons, accessories, and a quick view of all available gun options.

I haven't upgraded in a while and I can't afford to build a new system. Using an i7 940, would it benefit me to buy a newer card with more VRAM or should I stick with my 5870 until I can build a new system? I know people were talking about the benefits of using a 2GB card in BF3, I don't plan on overclocking the CPU.

Loaded up BF4 Beta last night, used auto recommended settings.
Joined a map, got such bad FPS (like 14-20) I lowered settings to high. Still bad. Lowered to medium, and finally got around 30 fps. Either this game is heavily CPU bound, or just has zero optimisation at this point.
Loaded up BF3, put everything on ultra, and got 60FPS without a sweat...
Also, I swear to god some of these guns on Beta are like pea-shooters. Emptied an entire clip into an assault's chest and he's running around on 5% health while im dead on the floor.

It uses every thread on my 3930k.

The combat takes a bit of getting used to, I agree. Air combat is worse, you get two attack heli's facing off for minutes while the rockets replenish. Take a huge amount of damage, but one hit from a laser guided rpg and kaboom - instant death. Needs a bit of balance methinks.

Gonna be destined to play BF4 on low settings despite a baller £550 GPU :shadedshu (Total War: Shogun all over again...)

My rig runs the beta pretty smooth on auto settings. All high or better from what I recall. Haven't ran a bench tool, but looks good to my eyes. Thinking of upgrading from my less then a year old 7850 to a R9 270X.

I think it would be a nice, worthwhile upgrade to get like a 3GB 7950 especially as can be had for ~$200

Well that was probably the MX4 which shoots 9mm pistol rounds. But very fast rate of fire and great from the hip with a laser for very CQC.

Also lag/lost packets could have been part of that. At least you didn't scream HACKER! :)

My 750K stands no chance then o_O

Well didn't you kind of expect some CPU bottlenecks? Upgrade when you can I guess to something that can better use that GPU.

Some poor guy on my server last night said he a was on a dual core Athlon 3200+.

A new update was applied. Now it works as it should except I had a few crashes but the stutter and sudden heavy dips in FPS are mostly gone. I have all the reasons to believe the final game will run smooth enough on my hardware. Now, the problem is where do I get the money to buy the game.
