Can you guess Which game it is?

Resi 2, obviously. What is more interesting is the version. Since it’s a tad more detailed than I remember the base PS1 one was looking I would guess either the Dreamcast or the PC one. Probably the Dreamcast.

Oh, wow, it was Renegade? That was an off the wall guess because "late 1990s looking graphics with a scientist and crystal" could be anything.
I think its funny you guessed HL because theres no female scientists in HL lol. The Tiberium guess was really good though.

I'll contribute some images to this thread.

One image per game. Might do more. Games are picked semi-randomly from my library :D

EDIT: Forgot I had reshade on for this one which is why some of the edges look really rough. Woops. Use that as a hint if you wish! (not that it will help you much.)

Looks familiar but cannot recall the game. I recall going through this map, or at least something very similar. Initial guess was Rainbow Six Raven Shield but the HUD looks different.
Do we reveal or wait for someone to guess right? Or reveal in a spoiler tag?

That's it, and I wanted to pick something easy but maybe it was too obvious.

That's actually the PlayStation version (via emulation).

I only vaguely remember the details of Half Life so that's not something I was sure of. The graphics definitely looked very late 1990s or lower budget early 2000s, and there was a scientist in what I presumed was an FPS game, so Half Life was the first candidate that came to mind.

While I finished the first Half Life once (many years after it was relevant), I never got far in the second one despite it being such a landmark title for the PC. I've tried playing it on a few occasions and for whatever reason, I never make it far before dropping it. It's not even that I dislike it; it just never holds my attention or interest for some reason. I don't know why. Oddly, I never had such an issue with the first title.

The second game has always been a mixed bag for me.. its a better story, that much is obvious, and its graphical fidelity still holds up today, but it just feels like the fun combat scenarios and gunplay from the 1st game were lost in translation. And the atmosphere of the 2nd game isnt my cup of tea either. I still think its a great game.. Just never been a big fan of the 2nd game personally myself.

I played myself then, I guess. Looks very clean. Up-resed and with texture filtering, I would guess?

Yeah, I took a break from emulation many years (like a decade-ish) back, and when I did play something in that time, it was rare and I would just use whatever version of ePSXe I already had.

Coming back to it a year ago, I was hitting some slight snags and found out PlayStation emulation has come a long way... which surprised me a bit because I thought it was sort of "done", but I guess nothing is ever done. I found about DuckStation and tried it.

The two things that blew me away were the ability to upscale the 3D while (sort of) retaining the 2D resolution. There's still telltale signs in some games/scenes, but they're the exception and the clues are minor unless you know where to look. No longer do you have to run a very low resolution to keep the 2D looking smooth. Which is good, because my AMD drivers/monitor combination seem to like to lose sync whenever I change mode, and with some things more than others (this was one of the snags I hit with ePSXe).

The other was the ability to address the polygon warping. I couldn't believe it; back in the day, this was always said to be something that would need fixed on a game by game basis and would likely never be possible, but somehow they did it? It doesn't always work perfectly, but still.

So what you see there is mostly a result of keeping the 2D resolution low while using a higher 3D resolution... and a CRT shader to hide the blemishes.

I've been playing this one for over 20 years and still dip into it from time to time.

This one is definitely OG Borderlands, I know because I replay it recently :D

The last one looks like Delta Force. From Splinterdog

Let's see if someone can guess this one.
