Cmos Checksum Error/ Cmos Checksum Bad???

all u can do, is try one thing at a time, u got any back up parts, cpu/gpu/memory etc

try flashing bios again, try a different version this time, then reflash back to your bios version u use, btw how are u flashing?

i use EZ Flash with a usb stick.

try a another alternative, use ez flash with floppy, or make a win 98 boot disk, that's what i do if ez flash dont work, sometimes i get lazy and use asus update which only works 90% of the time, ive been close to killing my board cause of it

to me it could only be memory/motherboard, or heatsink not fully secure with processor

the heatsink is secure cause i tightened that thing up til i couldnt twist the screws no more. it's gotta be motherboard or memory, but i'm learning towards the motherboard if all else isnt helping.

have u tried one stick of memory

is all your settings to factory clocks or auto

try one stick of memory then get back to us

:eek:your only supposed to tighten them so far

like someone else said it could be a faulty bios chip, problem is they do go wrong and then the board is caput ,
it also could be 1 of the pins on the chip it'self has come loose or unsoldered ,can happen .

also you said you want to know if you can RMA the board, even though you've took off the mofset heatsinks ,hm i doubt it unless you can put them back on without leaving fingerprints on them ,which is possible btw.

:confused:why did you take them off was it to fit your new cooler?
you also said you've no sound at all which could also indicate you've damaged your mobo .
also not very likely but still possible you might have damaged the bios chip with static electricity, did you ground yourself before starting i'e touching a radiator wear an antistatic wrist strap?
do you no anyone with a good knowledge of pc's who could help out for free
and yes you could have knocked 1 or more of the tiny capacitors or resistors of the board (you'll be able to see if you have by the marks left on the board damaged parts will leave a sort of scuffed mark or an imprint in the solder look on the board with a magnifying glass

well my body conducts more heat than electricity so hopefully i wasnt shocking anything. i took the mofsets off cause i got enzotech mofset coolers for free, and they really kept things cool to the touch. i guess i have to get a new motherboard then? i'll get it when i finish this damn paper that's stuck in the mist of my problems.

bummer. rma that sucker!

you try to loosen the cooler VARY LITTLE? sometimes it can bow the board and cause problems

maybe, i'm not screwing into the motherboard, but into a part of the retention bracket that is already screwed into the motherboard, so the board shouldnt be bent.

then i have no idea but its worth a try

it's a shame we couldn't put you in touch with someone else from here who's near you who could help i'm sure someone wouldn't mind:)

well even ASUS says the possibility of a faulty bios chip is possible. i guess it's time to move on. if they say i can RMA the board (even though i do not have the stock MOFSET coolers anymore), then yay!, but i probably wont use the board anyway. time to try the gigabyte limelight!

well gentlemen, i cant send this in for RMA because of my heatsink modification. ASUS says i can PAY them to fix it for me, but i dont think i'll do such a thing.

time to get a gigabyte board or buy the other Rampage

also you willing to donate the board to me? If i could get it working i would put it to use for crunching ASAP

For your components, and a X48 chipset, you might want to also consider MSI X48C Platinum.
Sorry to here the bad news.
