ttrtret; the only thing users like myself,Binge and Zabusa want is SOME sort of scrap of proof to back your funny claims, from our perspective it is you who is delusional.

life is all about perception buddy.

I don't think DX11 will be as much of a failure that DX10 was. Sure adoption of it may be slow, but it won't be as slow as DX10. We've already got bolt on DX11 for one game and the latest STALKER game is fully DX11 compatible.

So even though people may be adopting the technology early - that's there choice. If it's for DX11 or for the excellent performance in current games - I don't care, but going back to your original point of the thread not this Batman 9800GTX+ crap, DX11 won't be as bad as DX10. In fact, I regard DX11 as DX10.2 tbh. If it wasn't for nVIDIA crying to Microsoft to reduce the hardware requirements for the original DX10 specifications because they couldn't make a chip with all of the feature set, then it might have been adopted earlier on and we might have had a decent performance and graphical difference.

ttrtret, that last post makes thing make alot more sence, with a acceptiale frame rate of 20+ on high settings yeah the card will do it.

alot of people here and well mose people i know a acceptiable frame rate is 60fps maybe 50, so that will explain alot of the differances

anywho why so far off topic, this is about dx 11 not about who's e-penis is bigger

as for dx11 just being like dx10, i dont see this to be the case, yes dx10 was a flop, dx11 will taketo to bwe adopted well becasue people have to migrate accross the the hardware and soft ware has to be deleloped, remember dx9 wasnt adopted over night either

thats just it tho DX11 is fully compatible with DX10 and 10.1 thus if u have DX10 hardware u can still run DX11 games etc so its a moot point anyone with an nvidia 8000 series or ati 2000 series is already set in a sense thus DX11 user base is already rather large

DX10 hardware would only be able to use a subset of the features of DX11, as by definition it supports less. The tesselator feature is a good example.

exactly.

however, what it means is that when developers code a game for DX11, they also code it for DX10 and 10.1 at the same time

its not like say, crysis - where making it DX10 only would have killed its sales, since only 10% of gamers at the time could run DX10

PS - i did seriously mean that i'd be deleting posts guys. i've already started, and repeat offenders will be glared at severely.

I find it awesome that DX11 is somewhat backwards compatible, bar only certain features like the tesselator, that's GOLD imo.

its exactly what was needed to prevent another DX10 like flop, and it also prevents another situation like when nvidia refused to meet all the specs (and thus caused DX10.1 to come out)

it just means us ATI users have an advantage, we get the 10.1 features in DX11 games (SSAO, faster AA, etc) while nv users are stuck at DX10.0 :D

Games are now starting to move away from pure console ports as pc hardware is too far ahead for developers to get away with just a console port. Dirt2 and the new AvP game are a prime example of this - they will look infinitely better on a PC over a console with a decent amount of new features including tesselation being implemented to make them look/run a lot better. In those titles people will need to start upgrading their gpus again to have maximum settings as even though you can run most dx11 features on a dx10 card it will start putting too much strain on the dx10 cards as they lack the dedicated silicon to perfoem some tasks quickly and so will be bogged down.

DX11 will take off a lot better than dx10 could - win7 is more popular than vista is an important factor. Other reasons are dx10 and even 10.1 was ruined by Nvidia's refusal to implement certain things such as proper hardware tesselation, forcing the features to be removed which watered dx10 down a little too much. Now that these things are in the dx11 requirements developers can do a lot more with dx11 and are able to introduce some truly fantastic playing experiences with them, whilst being able to make old features such as AA in games with lots of lighting effects more efficient at what they do (a dx10.1/dx11 feature).

As other have also said the install base of people with the minimum requirements to play dx11 games (vista or win7, dx10 or above card) has grown a lot and is continuing to grow so developers won't be worried on having such a small user base to appeal to with their games.

I can see dx11 having a far better uptake than dx10 ever did, with quite a few good dx11 games coming out very quickly in the new year, however it will be a long time before we see dx9 compatability completely lost from all new game releases.

yea but even if its DX10 and 10.1 are subset as mussels said there SUBSET of DX11 and thus coding in DX11 means there coding in dx 11 in theory so my thought and point stands

anyone with a DX10 gpu will and can still enjoy most DX11 titles coming eventually that may change but for the time being 8800 is still viable at less then 1280x1024 but in all seriousness if your a pc gamer fps needs to be above 30fps and we all know the older cards wont do it and i dont honestly consider anything less then 1280x720 to be acceptable as all console games run at 720p or better thus if the gpu cant play said game at said res above 30fps it wont work for long

eitherway yes the 8800 series is still good and yes DX11 may be a bit of vaporware kinda (bear with me here)

but the fact remains that as of this moment DX11's user base is HUGE compared to what DX10 was thus its nearly impossible for DX11 to flop after all microsoft needs a programmer friendly DX to port to its new console sometime in the future and how much anyone wants to bet its DX11 with alot of that edram to feed say a tessalation engine (stretch there i know) anyway

DX11 is NOT a gimmick its an upgrade thats bolt on and works its like a new set of rims for that nice car you have or some suck ridiculous comparison im to drunk to make

wow rambling post mussells can u streamline it for me XD

the key here is that DX11 games will run on DX10 hardware - even if its slower, or some eyecandy is off... thats still better than say, running DX10 games on DX9 hardware

Yeah DX10 was a joke. More of a scheme M$ did to make gamers migrate to Vista. Anything DX10 was capable, DX9 was capapable as well. Only dx9 was faster (Crysis). Somethings up with Farcry 2 though.

We have to wait for DX11 though, too early to tell.\

In anycase, yeah.. DX11 is just technically an extended DX 10.1

Bjorn, farcry2 is running on a different engine(DUNIA) wich has little eyecandy effects wich Crysis had and therefor runned better. ;)
