Doom 3...Scary!

Doom3 was great - but the biggest flaw I found though, is that the AI is very predictable - even ambushes are predictable . . . but this is true for 95% of FPS.

It's at it's best, though, with EAX 4.0, an awesome surround system (or gaming headset), gamma and contrast set at default, with all the lights in your room turned off. Play Doom3 in the dark, at 2AM, watch an episode of X-Files first, if need be.

Granted it's fairly difficult, even on easy - but to get the added "survival" effect that they were wanting to get across, play it on normal or difficult - if you have a death wish, play it on Nightmare. Don't use any mods (including the duct tape mod), it's more thrilling to have a gun fight go down with little to no ambient light, and you have to use your weapons muzzle flash between shots to see where your enemies are.

If you loved Doom3 for the scare factor, try FEAR if you've never played it. There's a ton of awesome moments there, too.

ive never played fear it looks good though ill have to check it out!

I only found Doom 3 to be scary in two places. The very beginning when all of the people are screaming over the radio and when you enter hell. Otherwise it was enter a room, wait for the ambush, kill everything, rinse and repeat for the rest of the game.

So i was playing doom 3 tonight for ole times sake and boy i forgot how scary that game can be especially when your in a dark room with the sound blaring, no lie i damn near pissed my pants on more than one occasion!

Sorry but this is funny. :D

The only time i thought doom3 was scary was when i got ambushed by a monster that i wasn't expecting. Other than that it's a relatively normal game

yes but when on nightmare its hella scary! and hella hard!

i have built in realtek hd 7.1 surround and i love it awesome for gaming!
Trust me, Realtek "HD-audio" doesn't compare to a real soundcard.

well im sure it doesnt but i have great speakers as well as 200watt sub so its work for me but im sure your right

I'm sorry but I might be missing the point of playing a game in B&W. Can someone please tell me what's it good for?

BTW, Doom 3 was the first game I played on my previous rig and I loved every moment of it. Although F.E.A.R. is a scary game, it's very disappointing because of the "Matrix bullet-time" feature that lets you basically run through the game at slow-mo. I agree that Condemned is a lot scary than the other two titles and I feel terrible for not owning a console to play it's sequel.

i seriously need to get both of those games!

1. i thought d3 was predictable until i hit comms transfer level with those massive heads appearing from nowhere (not the skullls), then in a way it just got freaky, then crazy guys with chainsaws! its only scary when you dont expect summat to happen tbh

2.for those that havent played it, yes, get FEAR!!! its next level freakiness compared to d3!

Theres a sequel F.E.A.R. coming out in the not so distant future I do believe...

Get Resurrection of Evil if you enjoyed Doom 3. Even though it is just the same ol' thing, but it continues the story.

yea project origin right? cos the partnership broke down and they went their separate ways and one side made perseus mandate, the other is project origin

Aye, that's the bugger, Project Origin.

Oh and Perseus Mandate was a massive pile of steaming crap!

I didn't find Doom3 or the EP scary but I'll have to check out F.E.A.R some time.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R scares the crap out of me.
Especially the psychic mutants.
That noise they make gives me the shivers even though I know it's only a game.
But still it definitley has it's bugs even though it's been patched a fair few times.
There was one instance where the leader of a faction was supposed to give us our orders but just stood there infront cocking his pump action over and over again.

And you can't beat the stalkers busting out riffs on their guitar.

FEAR: Project Origin is currently slated for Fall 2008 :rockout:
There's finally an official site up now, too, and I'm sure they'll be keeping everyone informed as to it's current status. Sierra doesn't have anything to do with it this time around, so hopefully it'll kick massive ass.

FEAR was really great the first time through - after that, all the "FEAR moments' lose their effect. Slow-Mo leveled the playing field when it came to massive gunfights, you aren't as immune to damage as you are in a lot of other games. Without the use of slow-mo, a lot of the big fire-fights would be hard to make it through, although might prove to make the game even more challenging.

I can't wait to see what ID Software cooks up next, though.
