DX11 Games

Mainstream:

Radeon 5750/5770

GTS 450

Mid:

5830/5850/6850

GTX 460/GTX 465

Upper Mid:

5870/6870/6950

GTX 470/560

High End:

5970/6970

GTX 480/570/580

moved the 570 to highend, has the same performance as the 6970 and gtx 480

IMO with sales of Windows 7 picking up, over 300 million copies now, I think DX 11 will become more mainstream.

Doubt it would go mainstream before Win 8 comes out. Unless of course PS3 or Xbox 360 -by means of miracles or magic- became capable of rendering DX11 elements. (Can they even do 10 ?)

Edit: Wait a sec. PS3 does OpenGL only, right ?

No we care about games looking nice, and being fun to play and working properly, but 99 time out of 10 we get some still born second hand port of a crappy console game, that does none of the above. Consoles are holding back gaming, and have been for a while.

PC Gaming is so over saturated with piracy that consoles are the only viable market unless your developing a MMO or indie title. publishers are no longer interested in developing PC exclusives that use the technology and push the envelope for a bad return.

what is even more terrifying is the increasingly popular free to play business model because micro transactions generate more revenue than a subscription based model and there is no need for piracy.

I would be willing to wager PC Gaming will be reduced to nothing but MMO.

For clarification: How I categorize performance segments

Mainstream:

Radeon 5750/5770

GTS 450

Mid:

5830/5850/6850

GTX 460/GTX 465

Upper Mid:

5870/6870/6950

GTX 470/560/570

High End:

5970/6970

GTX 480/580

that is the most ludicrous post i have seen, a 5870 a mid range card........ and putting a 5970 and a 6970 in the same league is just plain stupid the 5970 is miles apart from a 6970 infact if we are talking fps performance a 6970 only gets 4-5fps over a 5870

i just cant see the logic one bit.

the mainstream market is the normal consumer not a gamer, ie, people that just buy something cheep and 'can do' the job ie the lower end a ati 5750 for example or a nvidia 430

a mid range card would be a 5770

a highend would be more or less anything above that tbh, you cant class something that is outdated or the series has been replaced as they are no longer manufactured or sold.

thats not true its purely that they dont have to spend as much time developing games as they do for the more dis concerning pc user. Also alot of people dont understand how to build or gaming pc or where to start and if they want one built they will generally be ripped of by a retail store.

Console gaming is gaming for the masses and so it has a bigger audience and in turn a bigger market to sell too. it pretty obvious why they target consoles first and for most as i bet probably 80% of 15 - 30 year old males own a console in their house, but maybe only 20% of people own a pc capable of running even a dx10 game (as most people are still on xp).

Dont try to follow the flock and believe what the company's fob you off with about piracy because it just is not true! The facts are their in front of you, its pure and simply that gaming has come to the masses with 'decent' graphics in consoles and its a bigger and more lucrative market with higher selling prices and DLC on every corner.

I think PC gaming is dieing slowly but its the company's that are killing it not piracy. society changes and the gaming market has just been revolutionised, its just more cost effective for the company's to makes games with a higher selling price.

there is loads of piracy on the 360 for sure i spent 3 years chipping them to pay my way through uni, i think i must have done maybe over 500 in the end. so piracy is and always been a problem and will never cease to be. its just there excuse!

This thread is not a discussion of piracy so let's not take it there. Piracy can partly explain the lack of DX11 games, but it is not the only cause. The PC [gaming] platform is far more dynamic than all others, largely because it has the capability for divergent evolution. Currently we're seeing a trend of drastically reducing publishing, development and licensing costs (particularly for PC gaming). But there is, and always has been, a rather segmented market for PC gaming with regards to compatibility. Ultimately no other platform presents such limitless capability, so it's really just a matter of time.

PC gaming may stagnate at times, but it's not going anywhere.

black ops sold poorly due to activision, not supporting pc gamers and not allowing dedicated servers, thats why no one bought the game.

modern warfare 1 was and still is one of the best selling pc games but with mw2 they removed dedicated servers and so u see the drop in sales since then.

btw where the hell are you gettin these stats from?

also im not blaming consoles im simply explaining to you that piracy is not the only reason, its simple business there is more money in the console market as more people own a console simple as.

NDP, vgchartz.

I removed my post because it's depressing. if you want to learn more about piracy see here.

1 word utter shite! its an angled view point not discussing all the facts or causes. again he states companys say this ................ my point again ratified.

In summary, looking at the data we wind up with what appear to be roughly equal proportions of machines capable of gaming in the console market vs. the PC gaming market: there are approximately 76 million or more 'next-gen' consoles currently in use around the world; and of the 1 billion PCs globally, we can state with a reasonable degree of confidence that at least 80 million, possibly as many as almost 200 million of them are capable of gaming with the latest titles.

that debunks your theory.

For clarification: your performance segments represent how we as TPUers might do it as. However, we represent maybe 15% of the total market for computers. A 5770 which you have listed would absolutely crush the video card in most if not all box computers sold at Best Buy at the "mainstream" price of ~$1000 My mom's PC has a 4350 in it, which hurts my heart to see lol.

Point of this message: we have a different view on "mainstream" than businesses and developers do.

waw thats really expensive in here you can get a quad core and HD 5750 with that money (although its just generic box computer but still)

btw its look like PS3 use somekind of SLI or CF with their spu, hmm thats why they can make beautiful games like uncharted and god of war

I dont know if you test Lost Planet Dx11 but i did, The benchmark runs ok but loading the game took an eternity... I dont know if Capcom optimized the game enough for Dx 11 features. I played the game in dx9 and almost no difference in this game.
I compare some images of the Stalker CoP dx11 vs dx9 and just some ilumination effects.
i think that Dx11 has a long way to achieve goal.

shaders are compiled by the driver on the spot, sometimes nvidia / ati seem to have trouble with this in certain games for whatever reason and it takes a very long time to do so.

bc2 was the latest off the top of my head, map loads would take at least a couple minutes.

People have been predicting the death of PC gaming for years and years, yet it's still around. Consoles use stagnant technology, and with consoles costing 300-600 dollars, you can build a nice PC for 600 dollars. Also some game types just can't be done properly with a dpad, FPS, RTS, MMO, ect.

Also you make it sound as though piracy doesn't exist on consoles, all 3 major consoles have been hacked and the PS3 especially is the home of some of the worst hackers of them all.

XBOX 360 only cost $199. my Corsair Dominator kit cost more than that. piracy does exist on consoles, but it's not that big of a problem. RTS don't work on consoles. Sony has DC Universe and Final Fantasy on the PS3. Microsoft has a MMO coming out for the XBOX 360.

A GTX 460 aint mainstream. Mainstream is a GTS 450 or Radeon 5750 and even at around $120 - $150 they suck at AVP in DirectX 11 @ 1080p. Dirt 2 doesn't count. The mid end cards still suck at Directx11 too. Even if you spent $300 today Directx 11 performance would be terrible in real Directx 11 games of the future. Its the simple truth.

i was going to lambast the daftness due to having a 5870 which does 60fps min in all dx11 games so far except metro 2033 which needed my physx cards assistance but since(after a long forum debate) you have clarified your point you may be right May be ,as in all honesty i too am looking nervously forward to dx11 crysis 2 and to finally seeing if ive done enough/spent enough:banghead:

My PS3 cost me 600 dollars only to YLOD itself a year and a half into ownership then Sony wanted 150 dollars to fix it, my first 360 cost me 300, my second cost me 250, and my 3rd cost me 200 as well, sorry but the poor build quality of consoles makes them just as expensive as PC's.

Have you played either of those games ?

I played FF 14 since closed beta, it's a horrible game, and DC Universe isn't much better. MMO's don't work on consoles.

GT5 looks okay, but only when you look at the "premium cars" all the rest looked as though they were yanked straight from GT4, as well as some of the tracks not looking as good as the others, they game feels like it need another year.

As for the rest of your comment I don't know how to respond as I don't understand what you said . . . .

All the same back on topic, I'm looking forward to more DX11 games, as Windows 7 adoption is going up (just in time for Windows 8:banghead:)

errr and you think you understood the first bit, i was saying why are you talking about ps3's on a dx11 thread, and then i said (in essence) ps3's are a bit poo i do have one ,but only for gt5 which i agree is also a bit poo i then went on to mention the greatness of F1 2010 in DX11 mode on my pc hope thats that sorted:banghead:

Ahh k makes sense now, I also love F1 2010 in DX 11, but it has problems as well, some of the textures aren't as nice as they should be, also tessilation seemed low as there was some jaggies.

im gona sound a bit fanboyish which isnt so but morphological AA did some amazing things with that game with my card (F1 2010) surely high levels of AA help you though i agree with the minimalist tesselation point n check my spec im fanboy to no co i assure

tessellation can be an optimization if used right, too bad no games now seem to even bother doing this.
Yeah.. they tesselate stuff that are worthless. Like a character's water container in the belt or that utility pocket from his cargo pants. In return would shave off 5 fps for each tesellated plane 0_o..

Now if theyd use it for terrain lod or say for racing games, car lod instead of choppy (think fallout 3 terrain 'popping' deformation with its lod, or 'fading' techniques. Tessellation would remove those imo), I think that would be interresting.

Sorry, but that is utter codswallop, normally disseminated by executives attempting to justify DRM measures that inevitably only serve to unjustly punish paying customers.

I apologise for the derail.
